Humboldt boys in 7-1 victory over Eagles

Humboldt clubbed 10 hits and Chris Witzke pitched seven innings of 3-hit ball to lead the Wildcat varsity baseball team to a 7-1 victory over Eagle Grove Friday night (June 27) in Humboldt. The North Central Conference triumph improved Humboldt's record to 15-4 overall, 8-3 in the NCC.Humboldt took a 3-0 lead on Hampton-Dumont and held on for a 4-3 victory in Humboldt on June 25th. The conference victory improved Humboldt's record to 14-4 overall, 7-3 in the NCC. Austin Zylstra and Connor Vitzthum combined to pitch an 8-hitter for Humboldt. Zylstra, Chris Witzke and Devon Clark each had two hits for Humboldt's 8-hit batting attack.Humboldt avenged an early season loss to Algona Bishop Garrigan by dominating the Bears, 12-1 Monday night (June 23) in a conference game at Algona. Brenden Schnell pitched six strong innings for Humboldt and Connor Vitzthum fanned three in the seventh for Humboldt, which scored four runs in the sixth inning and three in the seventh.

Wildcat girls go 2-1 in Pella Christian tournament

Humboldt's varsity softball team went 2-1 in the Pella Christian tournament June 27-28. Humboldt opened on Friday by posting a 4-2 victory over Pella Christian. Beth Duffield was 3-for-4 at bat to lead Humboldt, which got an 8-hit pitching performance from Avery Terwilliger. The Wildcats lost to Prairie City Monroe on Saturday, 12-2, then defeated Belle Plaine, 7-6 in the second game Saturday. Lauren Friesth doubled and singled to lead Humboldt's 6-hit attack against PCM. HHS pitchers Lizzie Tecklenburg and Shelbie Miller combined to allow 4 hits. Humbold swatted nine hits against Belle Plaine as Terwillier led by going 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI. She also scattered 12 his pitching.Humboldt is now 18-9 overall on the season, will host Pocahontas at 5 p.m. on July 1 and Fort Dodge St. Edmond the same night at 6:30 p.m. Clarion-Goldfield visits Humboldt on July 2. The Wildcats play at Algona on July 3 in their final regular season contest.
