Wildcat baseball team falls 7-3 to Garrigan

The Humboldt High School baseball team received their first loss of the season at home Monday night (June 2) as Algona Bishop Garrigan posted a 7-3 victory over the Wildcats. Humboldt, 3-1 overall, 0-1 in the North Central Conference, plays at Hampton on June 4. They'll be at Prairie Valley on June 5 and at Eagle Grove on June 6.Humboldt improved their record to 3-0 on the young season with an 11-0 blanking of Ogden Friday night (May 30) in Ogden. Junior pitcher Brenden Schnell pitched a no-hitter and struck out 14 Ogden batters. The Wildcats backed him at the plate with 11 hits.Humboldt earned 8-5 victory over Cherokee Washington Thursday night (May 29) in Cherokee.See more in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper. Wildcat girls fall to Garrigan, 5-1

Humboldt's varsity softball team suffered their first loss of the season at home Monday night (June 2) in a 5-1 setback to Algona Bishop Garrigan in a North Central Conference opener for the Wildcats. A 4-run second inning powered Garrigan. Kelsey Peters had 2 hits, including a double, to lead Humboldt's five-hit attack. Avery Terwilliger took the loss pitching, allowing 11 hits and seven strikeouts.Humboldt improved their season record to 3-0 by whipping Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, 14-1 in four innings on May 30 in Garner. The Wildcats totaled 9 hits at the plate to back the 4-hit pitching of Avery Terwilliger, who struck out six.Humboldt moved to 2-0 by stopping Manson-Northwest Webster, 8-1 Thursday night in Manson. Avery Terwilliger pitched a two-hitter for the Wildcats and Lauren Friesth went 3-for-4 at bat with 2 RBI and three runs. Kelsey Peters homered for Humboldt's 11-hit attack.The Wildcats play at Hampton on Wednesday, June 4, and host Clear Lake on June 5.

Humboldt finishes 6th in 3A state golf championships

Humboldt placed sixth in the team scoring of the Class 3A Boys' State Golf Championships after the final two rounds on the second day of the tournament on Saturday, May 31, at Ames Golf and Country Club. The Wildcats finished with 659 strokes. Manchester West Delaware was first with 622, followed by Creston/Orient-Macksburg with 634, Webster City at 636, Clear Lake with 641, Centerville at 646, Humboldt (659), Central Clinton DeWitt (666),Ballard Huxley (675) and Williamsburg (680).Jaxon Heinz led Humboldt by shooting a two day total of 77-82--159, 13th overall. Brenden Schnell followed with 90-79--169, Casey Kayser 87-82--169, Christian Birdsell 80-90--170, Austen Gargano 85-89--174 and Andy Nelson with 93-87--180.Alex Moorman of Centerville was meet medalist in shooting 70-73--143.Humboldt was in sixth place with 329 strokes on the opening day of the tournament.
