Humboldt girls to 3-4 with 51-41 victory over IFA

The Humboldt varsity girls' basketball team improved their season record to 3-4 overall, 2-2 in the North Central Conference by turning back Iowa Falls-Alden, 51-41 Friday night (Dec. 19) in the Humboldt gym. Abbey Gargano scored 16 points and Talyn Larsen added 10 to lead the Wildcats. Humboldt will play host to Southeast Valley in a JV-varsity girls only doubleheader on Monday, Dec. 22, in the Humboldt gym starting at 6:30 p.m.See complete story in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper. Clear Lake man killed in accident near Livermore

A Clear Lake man lost his life when he failed to negotiate a curve on County Road C-20, two miles east of Livermore, Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 17. According to the Iowa State Patrol (ISP) Richard W. Goscinski, 39, Clear Lake, was pronounced dead at the accident scene after he failed to negotiate a curve two miles east of Livermore. According to the report, Goscinski was operating a 2004 Mack cement mixer. Goscinski was headed eastbound and the truck left the roadway on the right shoulder and landed in the northwest ditch, where it overturned and rolled over on its top, pinning Goscinski beneath the wreckage. Two armed robberies in Humboldt; suspect apprehended

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), Humboldt Police Department (HPD) and associated law enforcement agencies spent late Thursday morning searching for a white male who is a suspect in two armed robberies that occurred earlier that morning, Dec. 18. According to HCSO Deputy Cory Lampe a suspect believed to be a white male, 6-2 to 6-3 in height, weighing 250-275 pounds, entered the Hy-Vee Wine and Spirits store approximately 10:20 a.m. Thursday and demanded money. He was displaying a hunting knife, Lampe said. Approximately 50 minutes later, around 11:10 a.m., the same man entered the Crossroads Cenex store and again demanded money while displaying a weapon. He was last seen traveling on foot east and north of the Humboldt Crossroads store. The man was reportedly wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black tennis shoes and also was wearing a black ski mask covering his face from the nose to the chin.

Kiwanis Christmasland

Christmasland opened for the season Friday, Nov. 28, with nightly hours from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Christmasland is open seven nights a week through Tuesday, Dec. 23. Christmasland will also be open Saturday and Sunday afternoons, Dec. 20-21 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Christmasland will also be open weekday afternoons in the days leading up to Christmas, Monday-Wednesday, Dec. 22-24, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Christmasland will not be open on Christmas Eve evening, nor Christmas Day. Christmasland will be closed for inclement weather. Notification will be posted outside. The Kiwanis Club has never charged admission to Christmasland, however donations are appreciated as they help the exhibit grow. Christmasland will be open by arrangement for group tours. Call Dave Lee at (515) 890-0116 to schedule a day and time. All school groups, nursing homes, group homes, church groups, businesses and civic organizations are welcome.

Wildcat wrestlers fall to Cowboys, pin Lynx

Humboldt's varsity wrestling team suffered their first dual meet loss of the season Thursday night (Dec. 18) at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, falling to the No. 2 (Class 1A) ranked Cowboys, 43-18. The Wildcats rebounded with a 39-27 victory over Webster City. CGD later beat WC, 47-31. Humboldt is now 12-1 overall, 3-1 in NCC. Humboldt girls cruise past Cowgirls, 72-52

Humboldt's girls picked up their second win of the basketball season by cruising past Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, 72-52 Tuesday night (Dec. 16) in Clarion. The North Central Conference victory pushed the Wildcats' record to 2-4 overall, 1-2 in the NCC.Humboldt overcame an early deficit and pushed Hampton-Dumont down to final minutes of the game before falling, 64-57 in a North Central Conference game in Humboldt Friday night (Dec. 12). Abbey Gargano and Avery Terwilliger each scored 9 points to lead the Wildcats.Humboldt will host Iowa Falls-Alden on Friday Dec. 19, and Southeast Valley on Monday, Dec. 22, in their final games before the Christmas break.See complete story in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper.
