Dresser’s Hokies place 5th in Midlands, VT visits Iowa next week to face UNI, ISU

Virginia Tech University, coached by Humboldt native Kevin Dresser, placed five wrestlers and took fifth in the team scoring of the 52nd annual Ken Craft Midlands Wrestling Championships on Dec. 29-30 at Welsh-Ryan Arena on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. The No. 6 ranked Hokies, 4-1 overall in duals, travel to Cedar Falls on Jan. 16 to face Northern Iowa in a 7 p.m. bout at the West gym. The Hokies will face Iowa State on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. in Ames. Dresser is excited about coming back to his home state and showcase his nationally ranked team. Sister's Open House to celebrate new plant

Sister’s Homestyle Entrees will host an Open House at their new facility in Humboldt’s Northwest Industrial Park on Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 3-7 p.m. The new facility, formerly owned by Voyager, is located on 21st Street North (turn south off of 16th Avenue North at the Precision Tank and Nokomis Machine corner). Sister’s retail location where people can pick up meals remains in the former Saul Studio building in downtown Humboldt. Kaitlynn Vought signs with Southern Nazarene University to play volleyball

After helping her Des Moines Area Community College volleyball team to the junior college nationals in November, Humboldt native Kaitlynn Vought has now signed an offer to attend Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK, where she will play volleyball the next two years on a scholarship. Peters awarded scholarship at Iowa State

Christmas came a week early for Levi Peters but that suits the Gilmore City native just fine. Peters, a redshirt sophomore linebacker on the Iowa State University football, was recently awarded an athletic scholarship starting with the second semester. Humboldt girls fall to Pocahontas Area in basketball opener, 74-54

Humboldt's varsity girls' basketball team opened their season Tuesday night at home and fell to top-ranked Class 3A power Pocahontas Area, 74-54 in a non-conference game in the Humboldt gym. The Wildcats fell behind early 19-2 but roared back to make it a 3-point game before the Maidens pulled away in the fourth quarter.
