Severe weather hits Humboldt County

Severe weather moved through Humboldt County on Monday morning, downing power lines, trees and blowing around grain bins (see photos elsewhere in this issue). The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Humboldt County about 7:30 a.m. after detecting rotation on the radar. The above photo was taken northeast of Humboldt, looking north from 180th Street near the Denny Williams residence. Corn Belt Power Cooperative said four poles went down on the 69 Kilovolt transmission line due to severe thunderstorms. Corn Belt crews were dispatched with four poles to the area to begin work right away. Power to the members served by the line was rerouted so no co-op member were out of service long due to this stretch of line being hit. Poles were also down in the eastern part of the Corn Belt Power system in Wright, Franklin and Butler Counties.
