City to explore old fire station for day care

The city of Humboldt is moving forward with an investigation into whether a community day care center is feasible. The location being considered is the old Humboldt Fire Station, north of Humboldt City Hall. Although no official action was taken at Monday’s Humboldt City Council meeting, the council gave a verbal approval to move forward with having Bob Mickelson, senior project manager and professional engineer with I&S Group, the city’s infrastructure engineering firm, study the building and come back to the council with a recommendation and a cost estimate. “The ad hoc day care committee has done a lot of study and consideration on the matter, reviewing locations and interviewing city leaders and day care directors and staff in other communities our size about their facilities,” Humboldt City Administrator Aaron Burnett said.
