Reimers wins Supervisor District 1 seat

Capturing more than 50 percent of the total vote, Bruce M. Reimers of Humboldt was elected District 1 County Supervisor for Humboldt County in a special election held Tuesday. Reimers will fill out the unexpired term of Harlan Hansen for the next 3 years and 4.5 months until the 2018 general election. Reimers was elected with more than 50 percent of the total votes, receiving 147 of the 284 total votes cast. Reimers outpolled Brian Ernst, 92 votes (32 percent) and Dean Potratz, 45 votes (16 percent). Reimers said he was encouraged to run by other members of the public. He has been involved in agriculture, motor vehicle sales and commercial trucking since his retirement as a pro football player and moving back to Humboldt in the mid-1990s. He said the biggest asset he can offer to citizens of the county is common sense. He said he believes in operating the county in an economically sound fashion.

COOK OF THE WEEK - SAMMI JOHNSON

Sammi Johnson was recommended to me when I visited with Kelsey Stearns a few weeks ago and last Saturday I finally got to meet Sammi when we were both at JoKir’s Wild Farm Fair. Sammi Johnson is an ambitious young lady who is an Assistant Manager at Hy-Vee, right here in Humboldt. She also is a part of ‘Three River’s Kringla’ with Kelsey Stearns (threeriverskringla@gmail.com). They are scheduled to be at the Wine Walk on Saturday, Sept. 19, and Pumpkins and Ponies at Springvale Farms on Saturday, Oct. 10. When they aren’t at some other event on a Saturday, you can usually find them at the Farmer’s Market in Humboldt on a Saturday morning selling their delicious baked goods. Sammi’s parents are Bob and Cindy Johnson of rural Hardy. She has an older brother, Brett, living in Cedar Rapids, and an older sister, Jesi, living in Fort Dodge.
