COOK OF THE WEEK - SARAH JANSSEN

Sarah Janssen is fairly new to Bank Iowa, having joined the Bank Iowa team about five months ago as a Loan Assistant. Sarah states, “What I like best about working at Bank Iowa is that I am learning new things and being positively challenged every day.” When asked how she sees the future of Bank Iowa and the Humboldt community, Sarah stated, “Bank Iowa will continue to provide excellent customer service and loan products to be the growing Ag and Commercial Industry in Humboldt County.” Sarah Janssen and her husband, Isaiah Janssen, are practically newlyweds, just having been married June 6. Sarah grew up in Corwith and Isaiah grew up in Palmer. They reside in Gilmore City now. Sarah graduated from Drake University with a major in Politics, History and Economics. She continued her education at DMACC and received her Legal Assistant Certificate. They attend Faith Community Church. Sarah lists her hobbies as cooking, baking, quilting and scrapbooking.

Humboldt girls win regional opener in 3 sets

The Humboldt volleyball team opened Class 3A regional tournament play Monday night (Oct. 26) with a 3-set sweep over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in the Humboldt gym. The Wildcats prevailed by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-17. Humboldt advances into a regional semifinal round match against Gilbert or Roland-Story, who met Monday night in Gilbert. Humboldt also tied a school record for wins in a season at 28. The Wildcats are 28-4 overall.See full story in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper. Wildcats top Perry, open playoff at Webster City

The Humboldt High football team closed out their regular season with a 35-13 victory at Perry Friday night (Oct. 23). Humboldt is now 4-5 overall on the season, 3-3 in Class 3A District 2 action. Wildcat volleyball team wins conference championship!

The Humboldt High volleyball team won the North Central Conference championship outright Thursday night (Oct. 22) by turning back Iowa Falls-Alden in 4 sets, 25-14, 25-23, 13-25 and 25-14. The win moved Humboldt to 7-0 in the NCC while IFA slipped to 6-1. Humboldt will take a 27-4 record into their first round Class 3A regional tournament match on Monday, Oct. 26, against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. The match begins at 7 p.m.Humboldt split two matches at Grimes on Oct. 20. Humboldt fell to Dallas Center-Grimes (27-25, 18-25, 9-15) and defeated Boone (25-21, 25-15).See full story in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper. Humboldt boys win team title at Spencer, advance to state cross country!

The Humboldt boys cross country team earned a trip to the state meet by winning the team title in Thursday's state qualifying meet in Spencer. Humboldt totaled 80 points to claim the top spot. MOC-Floyd Valley was second with 94 points while Spirit Lake was third at 97. The Wildcats were led individually by junior Ivan Rasmussen, who was seventh in 17:26.49. Wildcat girls return to state cross country with victory at Spencer

Humboldt's varsity girls' cross country team is heading back to the state meet after winning the team title of the state qualifying meet in Spencer on Thursday (Oct. 22). Humboldt scored 51 points to take the top spot. Bishop Heelan was second with 59 and Spencer third at 65. Isabella Luu paced Humboldt by running third overall in 19:49.36. Gabby Kent was third and Maddie Kampen seventh.
