Petersen donation provides recreation field expansion

Thanks to the generous donation of a Humboldt couple, the Jim Heinz Youth Sports Complex is expanding, according to Humboldt Recreation Director Susan Rutz. Bill and Sheri Petersen of Humboldt have donated property north of the 1800 block of West River Drive to the city for an expansion of the youth recreation facility. The properties consist of four lots lying north of 1809-1811 West River Drive. They abut with the south edge of the Jim Heinz ball fields. They measure about 400 feet long by about 100 feet wide. “Living and working around here (the Petersens live on West River Drive and operate B&N Auto on Highway 3), we see the amount of traffic and the number of people who use the complex. It’s great for neighbors and the public. Now my grandkids can use it,” Bill Petersen said. “We are thrilled with Bill and Sheri’s generous donation and want to thank them for providing additional land for an improved facility,” Rutz said.

Community welcoming to new doctor team

The excitement in the Humboldt medical community is almost hard to contain. The husband and wife doctor duo of Dr. Ryan Wood and Dr. Megan Wood announced last week that they would be moving to Humboldt with their three children. “What made Humboldt stand out to us was the community, the people. People really care about each other. They’re honest. They’re people we can trust. That sets your community apart,” Dr. Ryan Wood said. “Michelle (Sleiter, Hospital CEO) and the community are the nicest people we have ever met.” The two doctors are currently practicing in Florida. They initially said they would be moving to Humboldt next summer, but said the timetable might be sooner. “We’re excited to get to Humboldt. Our goal is to take care of patients, create relationships. My wife and I truly believe in that. We look forward to helping people, but we also believe the community will help us,” Dr. Ryan said.

COOK OF THE WEEK - BANK IOWA EMPLOYEES WEEK 1

The employees at Bank Iowa have gotten together and have given me several weeks of cooks for the Cook of the Week! When I went in last week, I thought I was just going to pick up a group of recipes and do an article for one week’s Cook of the Week, but to my surprise they had seven groups ready for me. Some will be individuals and some will be a small group that work together. By the time we finish, I hope you will feel like you know all of the ladies you meet when you go into Bank Iowa both in Humboldt and in Gilmore City. Jane Heinle and her husband, John, live in Humboldt. Jane has been a Customer Service Representative for almost 29 years and will be retiring at the end of this year (2015). “She loves her co-workers and cus-tomers and the diversity of her job.” Jane says, “Bank Iowa is a ‘Great Place to Work’!” When asked how she sees the future of Bank Iowa and the Humboldt community, she re-sponded with, “Humboldt, as a small town, has a lot to offer.
