Hotel investor meeting held in Humboldt

About 15 interested persons and potential investors attended an informational meeting in Humboldt recently to explore possibilities of having another hotel (AmericInn) located in the city. Another meeting for potential investors is planned next week. What is being proposed is a 48-room, three-story, flat-roof hotel, located on either Highway 3 or Highway 169 in Humboldt. According to feasibility studies, the hotel would require a $4.87 million total investment with an estimated $1,462,500 coming from local investors. A return on investment of 5 percent or greater is expected through the first five years. A second meeting is slated for Thursday, Jan. 14, at 5 p.m. at Rustix in the reception meeting room.

Hospital hopes for new clinic building

“The Humboldt County Memorial Hospital (HCMH) Board of Trustees are proud of the fact that our county hospital has the lowest number of tax dollars levied of any county hospital in the state,” hospital Chief Executive Officer Michelle Sleiter told the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors on Monday. The county’s tax levy for HCMH has been $300,000 for many years, which is $110,000 below the next lowest county hospital, the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. “The board is proud it can run on its own without a lot of county tax askings. We say that knowing that we have additional and significant expenditures on the horizon, and we want the board (of supervisors) to know what we are working on and what some of the future needs may be (in case additional askings are needed),” Sleiter said.
