Wildcat boys win, girls fall at Clarion

Humboldt's varsity girl-boy basketball teams split a North Central Conference doubleheader at Clarion Tuesday night (Jan. 26). The Wildcat girls fell to the Cowgirls, 51-47, while the boys were victorious in overtime, 78-77.Humboldt will play host to Iowa Falls-Alden on Friday, Jan. 29. Humboldt's boys are now 5-10 overall, 3-7 in the NCC. The girls are 9-6 overall, 7-3 in the NCC. The girls also host Bishop Garrigan of Algona on Feb. 1 in a JV-varsity, girls' only doubleheader. COOK OF THE WEEK - TRAVIS JOHNSON

Travis Johnson consented to being our Cook of the Week from Bank Iowa this week but confessed that his favorite meal is really at any of the many great local restaurants right here in the Humboldt area. Sounds like Travis’s main interest just might not be cooking! Travis is a native of Britt and graduated from Buena Vista University. Travis is a universal loan officer specializing in agriculture, commercial and consumer lending. He is also Vice President at Bank Iowa. Travis has been at Bank Iowa since March of 2015. When asked what he liked best about working at Bank Iowa, Travis said, “The co-workers, meeting lots of great Humboldt people and a great atmosphere.” He went on to comment about the future of Bank Iowa and the Humboldt community. “I definitely see a progressive mind set in this area.

WBM/GCB wrestlers advance 2 in 1A wrestling

The West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate wrestling team advanced two individuals onto district competition after competing in a Class 1A sectional tournament in Britt on Saturday (Feb. 6). The Wolverines, who finished seventh in the eight-team field of schools, qualified Nolan Grimm at 195 pounds and Juan Falcon at 182 pounds into the district meet in Manson on Feb. 13. Lions pull away from Wildcat boys in final quarter, 85-71

Humboldt's varsity boys' basketball team battled Clear Lake for four quarters before falling, 85-71 Friday night (Feb. 5) in a North Central Conference game in Clear Lake. Thomas Orness scored 25 points and Drew Thomas made 14 to pace Humboldt's scoring. The loss dipped Humboldt's season record to 6-12 overall, 4-9 in the NCC.Humboldt will return home on Tuesday, Feb. 9, when they host Algona. Webster City visits Humboldt on Feb. 12. Wildcat girls upended at Clear Lake, 37-34

Humboldt's varsity girls' basketball team traveled to Clear Lake Friday night (Feb. 5) and suffered a 37-34 loss to the Lions in North Central Conference play. Abby Zaugg scored 10 points to lead Humboldt's scoring. Wildcat girls topple Webster City, boys fall

Humboldt's varsity girls and boys basketball teams split two games at Webster City Thursday night (Feb. 4) in North Central Conference play. The Wildcat girls pulled out a 50-39 victory over the Lynx while the Wildcat boys fell, 56-36. Humboldt's girls improve to 12-6 overall, 9-3 in the NCC. Wildcat matmen go 2-1 at Ballard, finish 17-10

Humboldt's varsity wrestling team closed out their regular dual season by winning two of three matches in a four-team meet at Ballard Huxley Thursday night (Jan. 28). Humboldt defeated Greene County (58-18), Perry (41-35) and lost 51-21 to Ballard. The Wildcats are now 17-10 overall on the season and were 3-4 in North Central Conference dual action.Humboldt wraps up its regular season in the Guthrie Center Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 30.
