Wildcat girls win regional soccer opener, 1-0

The Humboldt High girls' soccer team kept their season alive by winning their opening round regional tournament contest tonight (May 31) at Carroll Kuemper, winning 1-0 over the Knights. Humboldt will now move on to the next round where they will face Gilbert on Friday, June 3, 6 p.m. at Gilbert. Action begins at 6 p.m.

HHS girls 4th after opening day of 3A state golf meet

AMES - Humboldt is tied in fourth-place after the opening day of the Class 3A state golf tournament today at Coldwater Links Course. Atlantic leads the field with 359 strokes and Clear Lake is second at 369. Shenandoah is third at 371 and Humboldt fourth with 379. Centerville also has 379. North Fayette Valley is next at 385, followed by West Liberty with 391 and MOC-Floyd Valley at 399.

Brooke Anderson leads Humboldt with an 18-hole total of 88. Avery Terwilliger has 91, Taylor Gidel 100, Halie George 100, Olivia Birdsell 101 and Brenna Howard 111. Clare Ausman of Nevada leads all golfers with an 80.

The second and final day will be played Wednesday, June 1, starting at 9 a.m.

HHS baseball team off to 1-1 start

Humboldt's varsity baseball team is off to a 1-1 start to their season this week. The Wildcats lost 11-8 at home to East Sac County on May 24 and traveled to Cherokee on May 26 to defeat the Cherokee Braves, 2-1. Humboldt visited Ogden on Friday, May 27.

Humboldt resumes play on June 1 when they visit Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.

VFW Commander to give Memorial Day address


VFW Commander Dave Lee will give the Memorial Day address at Bicknell Park in Humboldt, Monday, May 30. Activities will begin with a parade from the Law Enforcement Center to the Sumner Avenue Bridge at 9:15 a.m., followed by the Memorial Day program at 9:30 a.m.

Dave Lee, commander of the Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post in Dakota City, will give the Address of the Day at the Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 30, at Bicknell Park in Humboldt.
The day begins with flag raising at the cemeteries at sun up.
Line up for the parade begins at 9 a.m. at the Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center.
The parade starts at 9:15 a.m. from the Law Enforcement Center and proceeds west on Sumner Avenue to Bicknell Park.
There will be a Salute to the Dead at the Sumner Bridge with the Eulogy of Veterans by Father Jim Tigges.
The Memorial Service begins at 9:30 a.m. at Bicknell Park with Ron Rasmussen serving as Master of Ceremonies. Father Tigges will give the invocation, followed by the crowd reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
