Boil order still in effect for Hardy

A boil order was issued for the city of Hardy last Saturday, July 9, and remains in effect as of Friday, July 15. Bottled water for city residents is available at the Hardy Fire Station. The city is awaiting tests of a second water sample that has been sent to the laboratory.

A boil order remains in effect for the city of Hardy, as of Friday, July 15.
A boil order means residents should bring all water to a boil and let it boil for one minute. Let the water cool before using. Citizens are advised to used boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and any water used in food preparation. Untreated water may be used for bathing and other non-consumptive purposes.
Bottled water is available free of charge at the Hardy Fire Station.
The process of boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Bacteria in the water may pose greater health risks for infants, young children, some of the elderly and people with compromised immune systems.
Call the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791 for more information.
The city will lift the boil order once the city’s water samples test clean for bacteria.

By Kent Thompson
Budget matters and some end of the fiscal year capital purchases were the main matters of business during a meeting of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital (HCMH) Board of trustees on Tuesday, June 28.
One of the capital improvements is additional parking for employees and patients north of the ambulance garage. The HCMH employee parking lot north of the hospital will be expanded to the east, with an additional 28 employee parking spaces.
The Board discussed and approved a budget for fiscal year 2016-17.
Chief Financial Officer A.J. Mason said projections are for a modest increase in revenue of $700,000, or 3.4 percent.
“This a very conservative number with two new physicians coming on. We are projecting a slight increase in outpatient revenue and only a little increase in inpatient,” Mason said.
The hospital is expecting no rate increase changes for 2016-17.

COOK OF THE WEEK - FRIENDSHIP CAKE RECIPES

Friendship according to Wikipedia, is a relationship of mutual affection between two or more people. Friendship is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. A World Happiness Database study found that people with close friendships are happier.
Although there are many forms of friendship, some of which may vary from place to place, certain characteristics are present in many types of bond.
While there is no practical limit on what types of people can form a friendship, friends tend to share common backgrounds, occupations, or interests and have similar demographics.
