Bode Veteran's Memorial dedication

This miniature statue with an American flag is one of five at the Bode Memorial Park at the intersection of 7th Street and Humboldt Avenue, the entrance to downtown Bode from the south. A dedication of the park will be held Saturday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend. Humboldt Independent photo.

A dream five years in the making is coming to fruition this week, thanks to some hard work by dedicated volunteers, but most of all thanks to the contributions of a caring community to honor its veterans.
On Saturday, members of the public in the town of Bode and the surrounding communities are invited to a public dedication of the Bode Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of 7th Street and Humboldt Avenue. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m., with a lunch and social time to follow at the Bode Community Center.
A small group of volunteers decided that the northern Humboldt County community was a good location for a memorial to honor its veterans.
"It's long overdue," Garry Kraft, a member of the project committee, said. Read more about this and other stories in this week's Humboldt Independent. Subscribe by clicking on the link at the top of the page.

Seiler Appliance to rebuild on site

The Seiler Appliance store will be rebuilt after a devastating fire earlier this year. In the meantime, Seiler Appliance is open and operating out of the building just to the south (enter on the west or east side).

Seiler Appliance owner Russ Seiler announced this week he will be rebuilding his fire damaged store in the same location.
A fire on May 17 caused extensive damage to the building and its contents.
While the store will soon be rebuilt, Seiler allowed the Humboldt Fire Department to do some training on the roof on Tuesday night.
The roof will be removed and replaced as part of the reconstruction project. Part of the west wall will need to be rebuilt. The fire damaged the mortar in part of the west wall that needs to be rebuilt. The interior of the 60’ by 100’ building will be gutted and will be all new inside, including new concrete floors.

Fair photos and results in The Independent

It was a clean sweep of the four major entry categories for Humboldt’s Jaxon Kampen last Thursday at the 4-H and FFA Sheep Show at the Humboldt County Fair. Showing for the Humboldt FFA, Kampen exhibited the Champion and Reserve Champion Breeding Ewe and the Champion and Reserve Champion Market Lamb. The Reserve Hampshire-cross is be-ing shown by fellow Humboldt FFA’er Cody Krichau (left) of Gilmore City, while Jaxon exhibits the Champion Market Lamb (right).

The 2016 Humboldt County Fair was a smashing success, with fair weather and mild temperatures throughout the fair's six-day run. For complete results and 100 fair photos see the special section in this week's Humboldt Independent. Subscribe by clicking on the link above.
