HHS girls in 44-33 victory at Iowa Falls, boys fall

The Humboldt varsity girls' basketball team pushed their season record to 14-6 overall, 11-3 in the North Central Conference by stopping Iowa Falls-Alden, 44-33 Tuesday night (Feb. 7) in Iowa Falls. Abby Zaugg scored 16 points and Avery Terwilliger had 11 for Humboldt.

The Wildcats close out their regular season at Belmond on Thursday, Feb. 9. Humboldt begins post-season tournament play at home on Saturday, Feb. 11, against Hampton-Dumont in a Class 3A Region 4 tournament game starting at 7 p.m.

The Humboldt boys, meanwhile, fell 63-42 to the Cadets Tuesday night. Next action for Humboldt is Friday night at Algona in a JV-varsity boys' doubleheader.

Humboldt wrestlers top Red Oak, fall to Atlantic in regional dual

The Humboldt High School wrestling team ended its dual season Tuesday night (Feb. 7) in a Class 2A regional dual in Atlantic. Humboldt defeated Red Oak, 34-30 in the opening semifinal round, but came up short against No. 3 ranked Atlantic, 47-25. Atlantic advances to the state dual team tournament in Des Moines Feb. 15. The Wildcats will now focus on the Class 2A district tournament in Webster City on Saturday, Feb. 11 with seven wrestlers seeking a spot in the individual state tournament next week in Des Moines. Humboldt finishes 23-9 overall in duals.

Humboldt wrestlers advance 7 into district round

The Humboldt High wrestling team finished second in the team scoring of a Class 2A Sectional tournament held Saturday (Feb. 4) in the Humboldt gym. The Wildcats finished with 222.5 points to finish behind first-place Webster City (242). Woodward-Granger was a distant third at 204.5, followed by Southeast Valley (142), Greene County (130) and Roland-Story (70).

Wildcat boys fall at Clarion, 65-55

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows got off to a hot start and never let up in posting a 65-55 victory over Humboldt in North Central Conference boys' basketball at Clarion Friday night (Feb. 3). Devon Clark scored 12 points to help key Humboldt's attack. The Wildcats slip to 7-10 overall on the season, 4-8 in conference play. Next action for Humboldt is at Iowa Falls on Tuesday, Feb. 7. Humboldt also visits Algona on Feb. 10

WILDCAT BOYS PUSH LYNX BEFORE FALLING, 39-34

Humboldt's varsity boys' basketball team overcame a slow start and pushed Webster City up until the very end before coming up short, 39-34 Thursday night (Feb. 2) in Webster City in North Central Conference action.

Owen Terwilliger scored 12 points to lead the Wildcats.
