When it comes to student enrollment, the Humboldt Community School District continues to buck the trend.
In last week’s monthly meeting of the Humboldt Board of Education, school superintendent Greg Darling, reported student enrollment for the 2017-18 school year appears to be up over 20 students. The final enrollment count will take place on Oct. 1 and submitted to the state.
“It looks like we will be in the plus 20 category. We have a large influx of students in grades K-1 as well as middle school, too,” Darling said. “Next year we will have a dilemma where we’ll have to expand more at the high school and middle school.”
“When we have looked at past projections going back 10 to 15 years ago, our district wasn’t expected to see the increases. During interviews with new students and families recently, a lot of them are new to the district after moving into town,” Darling said. “It is a good thing.”
