It was an emotional night as more than 150 people enjoyed the Veteran’s meal served by Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church last Thursday evening.
Attendees included five World War II Veterans all the way up to Veterans of the wars in the Middle East.
The Veterans and their families enjoyed a free dinner of grilled steak or grilled chicken breast. To begin the event, Sidney Burns sang the National Anthem. Everyone in the room stood, even those in wheelchairs.
There were three speakers during the evening: Humboldt County Veteran’s Affairs Director Dean Ewoldt; Jim Fevold, who spoke about his life changing Honor Flight experience; and Seth Dencklau, who served in the Middle East.
Jim Fevold is a Vietnam War Veteran. He said while he was at war he heard stories of how his fellow soldiers were being treated when they returned home. Then he experienced it when he returned to the United States.
