Six Humboldt youth compete in State Dance


These six Humboldt High School students will be competing this weekend in State Solo All Iowa Honor Dance Team competition in Newton. Six Humboldt High School students will be competing this weekend in the State Solo All Iowa Honor Dance team competition in Newton. Hundreds of youth will be competing in eight classes throughout the day on Saturday. The Dance Solo competition will follow the Color Guard Solo competition on Friday.
The Humboldt students will compete at the Newton High School gym No. 2. Here is a list of the students and their approximate dance times: Emma Clark, 2:37 p.m.; Elise Halvorson, 2:48 p.m.; Jaydn Smith, 5:59 p.m.; Whitney Kellner, 6:36 p.m.; Morgan Smith, 6:58 p.m.; and Lylah Tinken, 7:22 p.m. The team is coached by Jessica Fuller.

HHS musical Fiddler on the Roof takes center stage this week


To Life, L’chaim members of the cast of Fiddler on the Roof sing during rehearsal for the high school musical, being performed this Thursday-Saturday at the R. Wesley Carlson Auditorium at Hum-boldt High School. Tickets are available at the school or at the door. Curtain time is 7 p.m. each evening. Humboldt Independent photo.

“Fiddler On the Roof” tickets are now available to the general public in the high school office, $8 for adults and $5 for students. Three performances are sched-uled for Nov. 2, 3, and 4, at 7 p.m., in the R. Wesley Carlson Auditorium. The large cast of 70=plus HHS students is under the dramatic direction of Ashley Garst, musical direction Michael Blair, and pit orchestra Drew Barker. The show is sure to promise nostalgia and fun for all ages! “Fiddler On the Roof” is presented with special arrange-ments through Music Theatre International.
With iconic and beloved songs such as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “Fiddler On the Roof” is the perfect mix of humor and heart.

Contested city races in several area towns


Voters in local communities will go to the polls to cast ballots in municipal elections next Tuesday, Nov. 7. Locally, there are contested races in the communities of Dakota City, Thor, Gilmore City, Renwick, Bode and LuVerne.

There are a number of contested races brewing for next week’s biennial municipal elections around the area.
Humboldt has no contested races, but there are contested seats for mayor and/or city council in the communities of Dakota City, Thor, Gilmore City, Renwick, Bode and LuVerne.
Polling hours for the Nov. 7 municipal elections are from noon to 8 p.m. at all locations. The following are the voting locations for communities in the coverage area. Note: city of Humboldt voters in all ward precincts will vote at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds Events Center, a change from previous years, and a temporary change for this city election.
