Winter snow emergency issued for Humboldt

A winter storm warning was been issued for Humboldt County. 4-7 inches or more of snow or a large accumulation of ice is forecast.
As a result, the city of Humboldt has issued a snow emergency effective from 7 a.m. Thursday until 7 a.m. Friday. No vehicles should be parked on residential snow routes in the city during this time.

Humboldt boys win 3rd straight, 70-58 over Cowboys

Humboldt's varsity boys' basketball team won their third straight game Friday night inside the Humboldt gym, posting a 70-58 victory over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. The victory improved the Wildcats' record to 5-6 overall, 3-3 in the NCC. Calvin Carlson poured in 31 points to power the Wildcats.

WILDCAT BOYS UPEND TITANS, 60-48
Humboldt's varsity boys' basketball team won their third game out of the last four by stopping South Central Cahoun, 60-48 in a non-conference game in the Humboldt gym on Jan. 9. Calvin Carlson scored 22 points, Jamison Heinz 14 and Owen Terwilliger added nine to lead the Humboldt scoring.

Humboldt returns to action on Jan. 16 at Algona.

Wildcat girls in 50-35 victory over Cowgirls

Ashlyn Clark and Mady Lange each scored 13 points to lead the Humboldt girls' basketball team to a 50-35 North Central Conference victory over the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls Friday night (Jan. 12) in the Humboldt gym. The victory improved the Wildcats' record to 4-9 overall, 3-4 in the NCC. CGD fell to 5-8 overall.

HUMBOLDT GIRLS FALL TO UNBEATEN SOUTH CENTRAL CALHOUN

Humboldt hosted No. 12 ranked and unbeaten South Central Calhoun on Jan. 9 and came up on the short end of a 58-38 final tally. The Titans improved to 13-0 on the season while Humboldt slipped to 3-9 overall, just three nights after Humboldt defeated Independence, 64-57.

Jayda Hoefer scored nine points to lead the Wildcats in scoring. Sydney Lane made eight, Jori Hajek seven and Rachel Darling added six. SCC was led by Maddie Jones with 23 points.

The Wildcats return to action on Jan. 16 at Algona.

Humboldt’s varsity wrestling team placed 12 of its 13 athletes and finished 3rd in the Rollin Dyer Invitational tournament on Saturday, Jan. 6 in Atlantic. Joey Busse won the 145 pound class. Hunter Egdorf (195) and Justin Jones (285) both placed runner-up on the day. Jacob Nilles at 138 and Levi Naeve at 160 took third. Taking 4th was Brandon Johnson (220), Zach Kollmorgen (132) and Tyler Craven (120). Joel Osborn (182) was fifth. Cole Nelson (106) and Zachary Packard (113) each placed 6th. Logan Moser was seventh at 152.

Humboldt returns to action at Fort Dodge St.Edmond on Jan. 11 in an NCC dual that includes Webster City.

Humboldt's varsity boys' basketball team returned to action tonight at home and posted a thrilling, 66-62 victory over Iowa Falls- Alden. Calvin Carlson scored 21 points and Jamison Heinz 16 to lead the Wildcats. Owen Terwilliger added 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Wildcats improved to 3-6 overall, 2-3 in the NCC.

Humboldt will also host South Central Calhoun on Jan. 9 in a non-conference game with the Mustangs. Humboldt will host Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Jan. 12 in NCC play.

Humboldt's varsity girls' basketball team returned to action at home tonight and fell to Iowa Falls-Alden, 54-45 in a North Central Conference game. Sydney Lane scored 12 points, Mady Lange nine, Jori Hajek eight and Ashlyn Clark five to lead Humboldt. The Wildcats are 2-8 overall, 2-4 in the NCC. The Wildcats also host Independence on Saturday, Jan. 6, for a non-conference game. Humboldt also hosts South Central Calhoun in a varsity-only contest on Jan. 9.

Wrestlers split dual at Clear Lake

The Humboldt wrestling team returned to the mat Thursday night and split two duals at Clear Lake. The Wildcats trounced Roland-Story 72-10 and were edged 31-30 by host Clear Lake. Humboldt, 14-3 overall on the season, 3-2 in the NCC, will compete in a tournament in Atlantic on Saturday, Jan. 6. See full story in the Humboldt Independent.
