By Kent Thompson
Sixty-four years and going strong, Becker Construction Enterprises Co., better known as Becker Ag Sales, has grown and progressed over time, but still has the commitment to its customers that founder Al Becker had in mind when he started the company in 1954.
Located on Highway 169 in St. Joe, right across from the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Becker Ag Sales is a full-service company offering specialized crews for repair, maintenance and installation of new and used grain handling/storage equipment.
Dick Danielson, who lives south of Dakota City, is the company owner.
The company was founded in 1954 by Al Becker. He operated the business until his sons, Rich and Ron Becker, took over the business in 1982. The Becker brothers ran the company until 2014, when Dick and his wife, Linda, bought the business.

Demolition of the existing bridge and construction of a new bridge is expected to take seven months, with the new bridge open for traffic beginning in early November.

Carlson, Heinz named all-NCC basketball

Calvin Carlson (left) and Jamison Heinz received all-conference recognition for the Wildcat boys' basketball team.

A good-sized crowd was on hand last week to recognize the Humboldt High boys’ basketball program.
The potluck dinner banquet on Mar. 8 at the middle school cafeteria, paid tribute to the recent 2017-18 season in which the Wildcat varsity posted an overall record of 7-15, 5-9 and sixth in the North Central Conference.
Third-year head coach Jason Hoag was joined by assistants Scott Birdsell and Dan Savery in recognizing the Wildcats.
Among the highlights was the all-conference recognition. Junior guard Calvin Carlson was named second-team All-North Central Conference and sophomore guard Jamison Heinz was named third-team.
