Wildcat girls blank Broncos, Cadets

No. 3 ranked Humboldt pushed their North Central Conference-leading record to 6-0 by blanking Iowa Falls-Alden, 12-0 in four innings on Friday night (June 8) in Humboldt. Carlie Thompson's RBI single scored the game-ending run with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning to power the Wildcats, now 13-0 overall on the season. Ellie Jacobson pitched a one-hitter for Humboldt.

The Wildcats moved to 12-0 overall Thursday night (June 7) by shutting out Belmond-Klemme, 13-0 at Belmond. Ashlyn Clark, Kyah Arnold, Rachel Darling and Ellie Jacobson each had two hits for Humboldt. Ellie Jacobson and Bae Arnold split the four-inning game from the pitching circle holding B-K to three hits.

Sandy Loney wins primary election for Supervisor seat

In Tuesday’s contested Republican race for the District 2 Humboldt County Supervisor seat, Sandy Loney came out on top with 117 votes, according to unofficial results from the Humboldt County Auditor’s Office.
Following Loney was Todd George with 65 votes, Jim Crabtree with 40 votes and Brian Skow with 30 votes.
Loney will be on the ballot for the November election. No candidate filed for the Democratic nomination.
In other contested races, Humboldt County Republican voters selected Mike Naig for Secretary of Agriculture with Dan Zumbach next at 67 votes, Ray Gaesser with 56 votes and Chad Ingels with 38 votes.
In the Republican race for State Representative in District 10, Mike Sexton received 462 votes to 145 for Tom Hoefling.
In the Republican race for U.S. Representative for District 4, Steve King received 485 votes to 144 for Cyndi Hanson.

Humboldt baseball team upended by No. 7 Boone, 12-4

The Humboldt baseball team slipped to 6-8 overall after they fell to No. 7 ranked Boone, 12-4 on June 7 in Humboldt.

Humboldt fell to 2-2 in conference play after falling 11-4 at Algona on June 6. Algona used a seven-run fifth inning to take commend of the game.

Humboldt evened its record at 6-6 overall on the season by drubbing the visiting Forest City Indians, 15-1 on June 5 in Humboldt. Reese DeWinter pitched five innings of four-hit ball to lead the Wildcats, who totaled 15 hits as Isaac Thurm, Jacob Thurm and Cade Witzke each had two hits for Humboldt.

WILDCATS 8, HAMPTON-DUMONT 1
Humboldt got back on the winning track Monday night (June 4) by stopping Hampton-Dumont, 8-1 in North Central Conference action in Humboldt. Cade Witzke earned the win pitching for Humboldt as he moved to 3-0 tossing a 2-hitter. Humboldt improved to 2-1 in the North Central Conference with the victory.

Eddie Doyle wins George Lee Memorial Golf Tournament

Eddie Doyle of Fort Dodge shot a 3-round total of 101 to win the 67th annual George Lee Memorial Golf Tournament at Humboldt Country Club on Saturday, June 2.

The 22-year-old shot rounds of 33-32-36 to claim his first title in the event. Jordan Morrow was runner-up with 106.

Wildcat girls edge Bulldogs, 3-2

Kendal Clark drove in the winning run with a single in the seventh inning to lift the Humboldt softball team past Hampton-Dumont, 3-2 Monday night (June 4) in Humboldt. Clark went 3-for-4 at bat to lead Humboldt, which improved to 9-0 overall, 4-0 in the NCC. Ellie Jacobson pitched a five-hitter.

The third ranked Humboldt softball team climbed to 8-0 on the season by sweeping Eagle Grove (21-9) and Mason City (4-3) in the Humboldt triangular on June 2. Kyah Arnold earned the win pitching against EG. She aided her cause by hitting a home run with five RBI. Humboldt had 16 hits overall.

The Wildcats edged Mason City 4-3 as Ellie Jacobson pitched a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Humboldt made five hits in the game.

No. 3 Humboldt girls in 9-3 victory over Clear Lakie

The No. 3 ranked (Class 3A) Humboldt softball team moved to 6-0 overall on the season, 3-0 in North Central Conference play Friday night (June 1) by stopping Clear Lake, 9-3 in Humboldt.

Ellie Jacobson pitched a six-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Humboldt backed her with 13 hits and used a five-run third inning to take command of the game. Ashlyn Clark, Carlie Thompson, Rachel Darling and Kendal Clark each had two hits for the Wildcats.

Humboldt hosted a triangular on Saturday which includes Mason City and Eagle Grove.

Humboldt will host Hampton-Dumont on Monday, June 4, and Emmetsburg on June 5. The Wildcats visit Algona on June 6 and Belmond on June 7. They host Iowa Falls-Alden on June 8.
