Wildcat girls edge Bulldogs, 3-2

Kendal Clark drove in the winning run with a single in the seventh inning to lift the Humboldt softball team past Hampton-Dumont, 3-2 Monday night (June 4) in Humboldt. Clark went 3-for-4 at bat to lead Humboldt, which improved to 9-0 overall, 4-0 in the NCC. Ellie Jacobson pitched a five-hitter.

The third ranked Humboldt softball team climbed to 8-0 on the season by sweeping Eagle Grove (21-9) and Mason City (4-3) in the Humboldt triangular on June 2. Kyah Arnold earned the win pitching against EG. She aided her cause by hitting a home run with five RBI. Humboldt had 16 hits overall.

The Wildcats edged Mason City 4-3 as Ellie Jacobson pitched a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Humboldt made five hits in the game.

No. 3 Humboldt girls in 9-3 victory over Clear Lakie

The No. 3 ranked (Class 3A) Humboldt softball team moved to 6-0 overall on the season, 3-0 in North Central Conference play Friday night (June 1) by stopping Clear Lake, 9-3 in Humboldt.

Ellie Jacobson pitched a six-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Humboldt backed her with 13 hits and used a five-run third inning to take command of the game. Ashlyn Clark, Carlie Thompson, Rachel Darling and Kendal Clark each had two hits for the Wildcats.

Humboldt hosted a triangular on Saturday which includes Mason City and Eagle Grove.

Humboldt will host Hampton-Dumont on Monday, June 4, and Emmetsburg on June 5. The Wildcats visit Algona on June 6 and Belmond on June 7. They host Iowa Falls-Alden on June 8.

Wildcat baseball team edged by Clear Lake, 2-1

Clear Lake scored the go ahead run in the top of the sixth and held off Humboldt, 2-1 in a key North Central Conference baseball game in Humboldt Friday night (June 1). Colby Clarken pitched six solid innings for the Wildcats but it wasn't enough as Humboldt fell to 4-4 overall on the season, 1-1 in conference play. HHS totaled eight hits as Hudson Gargano and Joey Busse each had two hits.

Humboldt fell twice in their own tournament on June 2, losing 4-3 to Central Springs and 18-5 to Estherville-LC. Jacob Thurm doubled to lead Humboldt’s five hit attack against CS. Caden Matson took the loss on the mound in relief of starter Isaac Thurm. Hudson Gargano took the loss pitching against ELC.

Humboldt was upended by Southeast Valley, 6-3 in a non-conference game on the road on May 31. Joey Busse took the loss pitching for Humboldt, which got two hits apiece from Owen Newton, Reese DeWinter and Cade Witzke.
