City seeks recreation center manager

The Humboldt City Council has approved the creation of a recreation center manager for the city to operate and oversee the new Humboldt Recreation Center. The building is expected to be completed late this fall, and the position was budgeted for under the city’s 2018-19 budget. The person hired will be responsible for scheduling support staff and general operations of the facility.
The position is currently open and applications are available at Humboldt City Hall. The city is seeking candidates with a bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation or a related field, and one year experience in the operation of a recreation/wellness center and recreation programs.

Humboldt girls, boys win CC titles at Clear Lake

Humboldt's varsity cross country teams made it a sweep of the team titles in the Clear Lake Invitational held on Thursday, Sept. 13.

The Humboldt girls, led by overall winner Bryce Gidel, finished first with 59 points, well ahead of runner-up Newman Catholic of Mason City with 89. Gidel (19:34) was backed by Isabella Luu, who was 11th in 23:02.

The Humboldt boys, led by overall winner Quinton Orr, finished first with 73 team points. Roland-Story was runner-up with 73, edged out by Humboldt via the tie-breaker. Orr (16:59) was backed by Joe Kunert, who was fifth overall in 17:49.

Wildcat volleyball team wins team title at Carroll

The 13th ranked Humboldt volleyball team improved to 19-2 overall on the season by going 5-0 to win the Carroll tournament on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Humboldt suffered their first conference loss of the season Tuesday night at home against Iowa Falls- Alden, falling to the Cadets in 5 sets by scores of 12-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23 and 11-15.

Humboldt moved to 2-1 in the North Central Conference.

The Wildcats play host to Boone and Grand View Baptist on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

Humboldt volleyball team wins Spencer title

Humboldt's No. 13 ranked volleyball team pushed its season record to 14-1 overall after going 5-0 on Saturday to win the Spencer Invitational.

The Wildcats defeated Mason City (21-14, 22-20), Cherokee (12-21, 26-24, 15-10), Spencer (21-6, 21-10), Algona (21-14, 21-19 and Carroll (21-14, 21-16).

Humboldt returns home on Tuesday, Sept. 11, to host No. 15 ranked Iowa Falls-Alden in a key North Central Conference match.

Humboldt handles Storm Lake, 28-6

The Humboldt football team moved to 2-1 on the season Friday night by handling Storm Lake, 28-6 in a non-district game at Storm Lake. Humboldt scored on an 85-yard kickoff return by Jamison Heinz, runs by Tyler Vitzthum and Lucas Volf and a pass from a Joey Busse to Matt Miller.

Humboldt will return home next week to host Spencer on Armed Forces Night.
