Osage turns back Humboldt in regional final

The Humboldt volleyball team saw their season come to an end Monday night in a Class 3A regional championship match at Clear Lake. The Wildcats, ranked No. 12, fell in three sets to No. 6 ranked Osage by scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-15.

Osage advanced into the state tournament with a 29-6 record while Humboldt's season ends with a 30-5 record.

Humboldt High sophomore distance sensation Quinton Orr finished second overall to lead the Humboldt High boys' cross country team to a ninth-place finish in the team scoring of the Class 3A State Cross Country Championships held on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Lakeside Golf Course north of Fort Dodge.

Orr finished in 16:10, seven seconds behind first-place Cody Mertens of Mount Pleasant. Humboldt senior Joe Kunert was 29th in 17:11 while Eric Wittrock was 75th in 17:44. Devon Coon clocked 18:07 to finish 102nd and Noah Helmer was 106th in 18:10. Nolan Jergens ran 114th, in 18:25 and Calvin Carlson was 126th in 19:22.

Humboldt High junior distance running standout Bryce Gidel secured another top 10 finish in the state cross country meet by placing ninth overall in the Class 3A Girls' state championships held at Lakeside Golf Course north of Fort Dodge on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Gidel finished the course in 19:21.1. Janette Schraft of Glenwood was the winner in 18:22.5.
