Humboldt girls, boys fall at Webster City

The Humboldt girls basketball team went on the road to Webster City Tuesday night and fell to the Lynx, 42-31. It was the final conference game of the season for the Wildcats, who move to 4-16 overall, 1-13 in league play.

Humboldt's boys also fell at Webster City, 53-38. The Wildcats move to 8-9 overall on the season, 6-7 in the NCC

HHS BOYS CRUISE PAST BULLDOGS, GIRLS FALL
Humboldt's varsity girl-boy basketball teams split a pair of North Central Conference home games with Hampton-Dumont/CAL Monday night (Feb. 4).

The Wildcat girls fell short by a 49-45 final count. Jori Hajek scored 14 points and Kendal Clark added 10 to lead Humboldt, which slipped to 4-15 overall, 1-12 in the NCC.

The Wildcat boys ran away from the Bulldogs in the second half, 76-38, moving their season record to 8-8, 6-6 in the NCC. Calvin Carlson pumped in 22 points, Hudson Gargano made 13 and Gabe Gidel added 11 to spark the Wildcats.

Humboldt in 2A regional dual Feb. 5 at Atlantic


After placing runner-up in the team scoring of the Class 2A Sectional wrestling tournament in Humboldt on Saturday (Feb. 2), Humboldt qualified for the regional dual team tournament, where they have been assigned to the Atlantic regional on Tuesday, Feb. 5. After placing second in a Class 2A Sectional Tournament in Humboldt on Saturday (Feb. 2), the Humboldt wrestling team qualified for the regional dual team tournament and the Wildcats have been assigned to the Atlantic regional on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Humboldt will meet Carlisle in one semifinal match and Prairie City-Monroe will face Harlan in the other semifinal, with the winners to meet afterwards to determine a berth in the state dual team tournament in Des Moines on Feb. 13.

Humboldt wrestlers 2nd in 2A sectional, advance 8 to districts

The Humboldt wrestling team finished second in the team scoring and advanced eight on to district competition after hosting a Class 2A Sectional Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 2.

The Wildcats finished with 208 team points to finish behind first-place Clarion-Goldfield-Dows at 227.5. Southeast Valley was third at 161, Algona fourth with 160, Iowa Falls-Alden fifth with 141 and Pocahontas Area was sixth at 88.

Humboldt's first and second-place finishers earned spots in the district meet at Clear Lake on Feb. 9. Joey Busse at 145 pounds, Joel Osborn at 195 and Cresten Craven at 120 were sectional champs. Humboldt's runner-up finishers on the day include Justin Jones at 285, Levi Naeve at 160, Jordan Jensen at 132, Colby Clarken at 126 and Cole Nelson at 103.
