Wildcat boys in 14-stroke golf victory

Jack Arndt fired a 38 and Gabe Gidel was next with a 41 to lead the Humboldt boys’ golf team past Pocahontas Area, 167-181 last Friday (April 5) at Humboldt Country Club.

It was the season opener for both schools. Tyson Peterson carded a 43 to pace Pocahontas Area. He was backed by Dylan Peterson with 44.

Humboldt also had Hudson Gargano with 43 and Jacob Thurm at 45.

Humboldt girls dominate at Algona's Hannover Relays

The Humboldt High girls' track team dominated the field in winning the Hannover Relays at Algona on Tuesday, April 9.

The Wildcats won 12 events to win the team title, their fourth of the season.

Humboldt returns to action at the Bulldog Relays in Ogden on Thursday, April 11.

Wildcat girls in 5-0 soccer victory over Bulldogs

Chase Rice scored three goals and Amber Westling and Yuli Orona each had one to lift the Humboldt girls' soccer team to a 5-0 shutout victory over Hampton-Dumont-CAL Tuesday night (April 9) in Humboldt. The victory improved the Wildcats to 3-0 on the season.

Humboldt returns to action at home on Friday, April 12, against Aplington-Parkersburg.

Humboldt boys win title at Fort Dodge

The Humboldt boys' track team won seven events and claimed the team title in the Class B scoring of the annual Fort Dodge Dodger Relays on Monday, April 8.

The Wildcats racked up 156 points to outdistance runner-up Boone, which had 114.

The Wildcats return to action at Forest City on April 11.

Humboldt man airlifted after SUV/cycle crash

A Humboldt motorcyclist was seriously injured Sunday following an accident in the 1700 block of 13th Street North (Highway 169).
The accident was reported at 6:04 p.m. The Humboldt Police Department, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt County Memorial Hospital EMS responded to the scene. Members of the Iowa State Patrol arrived a short time later with Trooper Mark C. Anderson of Post 7 filing the report.
According to the report, a 2015 Harley-Davidson LRX motorcycle driven by Rickie Lee Vinsand, 66, of Humboldt, was north on Highway 169 and was stopped to make a left turn into the Hardware Hank driveway.
A 2015 Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle driven by David M. Haase, 48, of Burt, was also northbound.
Haase told investigators he did not see Vinsand’s motorcycle and the Ford SUV rear-ended the Harley Davidson.

Jason Thurm named Humboldt boys' basketball coach


JASON THURM

Jason Thurm is the new head boys' basketball coach at Humboldt High School.

The hiring of Thurm was approved Monday night (April 8) by the Humboldt School Board during a special meeting.

Thurm replaces Jason Hoag, who stepped down last winter after four years at the helm.

Thurm has been employed in the district for 21 years and has extensive coaching experience, including head baseball coach. He has also coached basketball at the middle school level for the last two decades, as well as football.
