Wildcat boys win EG's Umstead Relays

The Humboldt High boys' track team began their outdoor season by winning the team title in the Umstead Relays at Eagle Grove on Tuesday, April 2.

The Wildcats won eight events to claim the top spot. Wildcat junior Matt Miller set a meet record in the 400-meters in 50.52 seconds. Quinton Orr won the 3,200 in 10:27.38. Jamison Heinz won the long jump with a leap of 19-11. Owen Terwilliger won the shot put with a heave measuring 51-2. The Wildcats also won the 4x100 relay in 45.19, the 4.400 relay in 3:40.09, the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:03.56 and the distance medley relay in 3:57.67.

The Wildcats will host their own Charlie Bunn Relays on Friday, April 5, starting at 5 p.m.

Humboldt girls 2nd in Clear Lake track Invitational

The Humboldt High girls' track team opened their outdoor season by placing second in the Clear Lake Early Bird Relays on Tuesday (April 2).

Humboldt won six events to score 152 points, finishing second behind Iowa Falls-Alden at 157.

The Wildcats' first-place finishes came from Kendal Clark in the discus (113-feet), Kailee Dettmann in the high jump (4-10), Bryce Gidel in the 3,000-meters (11:03.25), Claire Varangkounh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:16.37), Paige DeWinter in the 200-meters (28.13) and the shuttle hurdle relay of Jori Hajek, Dettmann, Kirstyn Beaman and Varangkounh in 1:10.8. Wildcat boys fall to Greene County in soccer opener, 8-3

The Humboldt boys' soccer team came up short by an 8-2 final score in their home contest with Storm Lake on April 4. Humboldt slipped to 0-2 on the season.

Humboldt opened their season at home Tuesday night (April 2) and came up on the short end of an 8-3 final score with Greene County of Jefferson.

Humboldt got goals from Lucas Volf, Tyler Bowden and Marlo Ocampo-Chirinos.

In next action, Webster City visits Humboldt on Monday, April 8.
