By KENT THOMPSON
Creating a good prairie environment requires management, including the burning of the existing grass in order to stimulate growth of prairie grass seeds to eliminate competition from other plants.
That’s what John Kollmorgen and his crew were doing earlier this month on the David Boswell property on 200th Street in Section 19 of Grove Township.
Kollmorgen operates Custom Seeding and Habitat in Humboldt, but his territory is throughout the state. He provides pollinator and native grass seeding services, mid-contract options for Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres, which can include controlled burning and inter-seeding. The company also provides invasive tree removal services.
