Supervisors approve cabins for Sheldon Park

This is a computer-generated image of what a new cabin at Sheldon Park will look like. The Humboldt High School Buildings Trades program would like to build two such cabins for its school project during the 2019-20 school year. Image courtesy of Humboldt County Conservation.

By KENT THOMPSON
After constructing a variety of homes during the past nearly 20 years, the Humboldt High School Buildings Trades class will be trying a new venture later this year, two wood cabins in Sheldon Park.
Humboldt County Conservation Director Todd Lee reported the news at Monday’s Humboldt County Board of Supervisor’s meeting.
Lee said the cabins would be 576 square feet each and would be two-bedroom, one-bath cabins.
He said the cabins at Gotch Park are a little more primitive, but rent well.
“In this day and age we wanted something a little nicer. This would be comparable to cabins at Briggs Woods (south of Webster City),” Lee said.
Lee estimated the construction cost of about $60,000 per cabin. It would include all sewer, water and utilities.
