Jody Lehman has brought new life to her old neighborhood.
Lehman recently completed construction of a new home at 610 South Taft Street in Humboldt.
“I lived a block north of here growing up and my father lived here at this location for many years," Lehman said. After his home was damaged by fire in early 2018, and he passed away two months later, Lehman was faced with what to do with the old property.
“I chose to build a new home because I always loved this neighborhood. The neighbors here are great and so the journey began for us,” Jody said.

Mayoral contests highlight local races

In Humboldt, incumbent mayor Dan Scholl (left) is being challenged by former mayor Walter Jensen (right) in the November city election. It is one of five communities in the county with a two-way race for mayor.

By KENT THOMPSON
The city of Humboldt will have a contested race for mayor and at least one city council seat and the Humboldt Community School District will have contested races in two of the three director districts up for election.
In Humboldt, two-term incumbent Mayor Dan Scholl is being challenged by former Mayor Walter Jensen.
Jensen served as Humboldt’s mayor from Jan. 1, 2008 to Dec. 31, 2015, before being defeated by Scholl in a 2015 citywide election for the office.
The mayor’s seat is not the only contested race in the city of Humboldt. In Ward 3, the city’s north and northwest ward, two-term incumbent Joel A. Goodell is seeking re-election and is being challenged by Ariel R. Echevarria.
