Des Moines group interested in plans for dam

The Joe Reasoner Dam in Humboldt is again the topic of discussions. The county is interested in developing a plan for renovation or removal of the low head dam along with a method to improve water flows and recreational opportunities on the West Fork of the Des Moines River in Humboldt. Humboldt County Conservation Director Todd Lee reports that he was involved in a conference call recently with the Greater Des Moines Growth Partnership.
Des Moines is in the process of renovating three of their low head dams and members of the group are interested in coming to Humboldt and learning more about the Joe Reasoner Dam and what potential renovation options the county may be considering.
Lee made his report during the Dec. 18, 2019 meeting of the Humboldt County Conservation Board.
Lee termed the discussion very productive and said he would welcome a visit by members of the Growth Partnership. Lee said he has not heard back from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources about securing a facilitator to begin discussions about the future of the dam and Des Moines River in Humboldt County.
