Four COVID-19 cases in the county since Monday

The Iowa Department of Public Health and Humboldt County Public Health have reported four new positive cases of COVID-19 in Humboldt County, one Tuesday, July 14, one on Wednesday, July 15 and two on Thursday, July 16. Three of the subjects are in the 18-40 age category and one is in the 41-60 age group.
The positive cases brings Humboldt’s total positive case count to 66. One Humboldt County resident in the 61-80 age range has died from the disease. The number of recovered cases was not immediately available, but is at least 50.
The breakdown of positive cases in the county by age groups is as follows: (0-17) four; (18-40) 30; (41-60) 26; (61-80) five; (81+) one.

Humboldt girls blank SE Valley in regional opener, 10-0

The Humboldt softball team will began post-season tournament play tonight (July 15) with an impressive, 10-0 victory over Southeast Valley in a first round Class 3A regional tournament game in Humboldt.

Humboldt pitcher Ellie Jacobson pitched a perfect no-hit game with no walks and seven strikeouts in five innings of work. Kendal Clark homered and Carlie Thompson tripled to lead Humboldt's batting attack.

Humboldt, 19-3 overall, will play Greene County of Jefferson in a semifinal round game in Humboldt on Friday, July 17. Greene County downed Kuemper Catholic of Carroll, 13-0.

The regional final will be Monday, July 20, at a site to be determined.

Wildcat baseball team in 7-4 victory over Algona

The Humboldt baseball team completed their North Central Conference portion of their schedule by turning back the Algona Bulldogs, 7-4 in league action in Humboldt on Monday night (July 13).

The Wildcats got two home runs from senior Jacob Thurm as Humboldt finishes 4-1 and runner-up in conference play. Thurm also earned the win pitching.

Humboldt wrapped up its regular season Tuesday night (July 14) in a non-conference game at Storm Lake, falling 11-6. The Wildcats collected six hits at the plate with Caden Matson and Caiden Baker leading the way each with a double. Wildcat pitchers Colby Clarken and Hayden Holm split the pitching duties and scattered eight Tornado hits.

The Wildcats, 9-6 overall, begin post-season tournament play at home on Friday, July 17, against Clear Lake. First pitch is at 7 p.m.

HHS girls end regular season in 1-0 loss at Estherville

The 3rd rated Humboldt softball team ended their regular season Monday night in a 1-0 setback at Estherville-Lincoln Central.

A single by Carlie Thompson was the only hit of the night for Humboldt, which closes out at 17-2 overall.

Ellie Jacobson pitched a no-hitter for the Wildcats with 13 strikeouts.

Humboldt begins Class 3A regional tournament play at home on Wednesday, July 15, when they face Southeast Valley in a 7 p.m. contest. The winner will move into a semifinal round game in Humboldt against Kuemper Catholic or Greene County.
