A spike of 15 new positive cases of Novel Coronavirus cases in Humboldt County this week has the county with one of the highest positivity percentages in the state. According to the Iowa COVID-19 website, percent of positive cases by county in the past 14 days, Humboldt ranks at 21 percent, second only to Webster County at 23 percent. During that same time period, Pocahontas County has been at 5 percent and Polk, Dallas and Johnson County have been at 8 percentage of positive cases.
Humboldt County's positivity rate tops the 15-20 percent over two weeks, which Gov. Kim Reynolds said could trigger remote classes, but at least 10 percent of students would need to be absent from school. Humboldt County's 13 percent daily threshold is below Reynolds' mark of 15 percent.

Ernst talks help for frontline workers

Humboldt Ambulance Director Mike Sexe (foreground) turned the keys to the hospital's new ambulance over to Iowa Senator Joni Ernst (background) last Saturday for a spin around the block. Ernst stopped by the hospital to visit with EMTs in the area who have been caring for and transporting COVID-19 and other patients during the global pandemic. Submitted photo.

Many people have said, “don’t forget about the frontline workers,” as we provide aid and support during this global pandemic.
On Saturday, about 20 of those frontline workers, Emergency Medical Service (EMS) volunteers, were able to relate their needs, wants and frustrations to Iowa junior Senator Joni Ernst.
Ernst visited the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital (HCMH) ambulance garage late Saturday morning and heard from about 20 EMS personnel, representing the communities of Humboldt, Renwick and Bode.
One of the items Ernst talked about is the Frontline Act she introduced.
