Moser and Gidel named Homecoming royalty


Humboldt High School held a Homecoming parade and coronation early Sunday evening under beautiful weather conditions. It sounds like great football weather for Friday night with partly-cloudy skies and temperatures in the 60s. Humboldt Independent photo.

Humboldt High School held a Homecoming parade and coronation ceremony on Sunday evening, Sept. 13, with the coronation taking place at Bicknell Park. Kylie Moser was crowned Homecoming Queen and Gabe Gidel was crowned Homecoming King. Gilmore City man in explosion is identified

On Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 12:51 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an explosion at a residence in the town of Gilmore City.
Emergency personnel were dispatched to 401 SE 4th St. in Gilmore City in reference to an explosion at a residence. The victim was identified as Ryan Angell, 49. Angell lives in that residence.
Angell was transported by Humboldt County EMS to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital and was later transferred by LifeFlight helicopter. He remains at a Des Moines hospital in serious condition. The force of the blast reportedly caused serious injuries to the hand, arm and torso of Angell’s body.
There was another individual in the residence at the time of the explosion, but that person was unharmed.

Wildcat boys win team title at Clear Lake

Led by the 1-2 finish of Quinton Orr and Eric Wittrock, the Humboldt boys' cross country team won the team title in the Clear Lake Invitational cross country meet on Sept. 17. The Wildcats totaled 34 points to run away from runner-up Clear Lake, which had 85. Orr's winning time was 15:52 while Wittrock ran 16:50. Trevor Jacobson was sixth and Nolan Jergens 10th.

Quinton Orr's school record leads Wildcat boys at Ballard

Led by Quinton Orr's first-place school record time of 15:42, the Humboldt boys cross country team finished fifth in the Class A large school field of teams in the Ballard Huxley Invitational on Monday, Sept. 14 in Huxley.

Eric Wittrock ran seventh in 17:23 and Trevor Jacobson was 19th in 18:19. Nolan Jergens was 28th in 18:41 and Andrew Theesfeld ran 43rd in 19:21. Aiden Christensen clocked 20:03 to place 57th and Cale Hundertmark was 60th in 20:16.

Humboldt girls 2nd in Clear Lake country meet

Humboldt's varsity girls' cross country team finished runner-up in the team scoring of the Clear Lake Invitational on Sept. 17.

Joslyn Orr ran eighth overall in 22:11 to pace the Humboldt girls. Allison Hoag was 10th in 22:25. Kali Beaman ran 15th and Grace Smith was 18th.

Wildcat girls 10th in Ballard cross country meet
Led by Kali Beaman's 45th place finish in 23:35, the Humboldt girls cross country team placed 10th in the Class A large school field of teams in the Ballard Huxley Invitational Monday night (Sept. 14).

Beaman finished in 23:35 while teammate Joslyn Orr was 47th in 23:40. Allison Hoag ran 52nd in 23:55 and Grace Smith was 65th in 24:42. Sophia Harris was 71st in 26:46. Lillian Holm was 74th in 27:22.

Humboldt will host their own meet on Monday, Sept. 21.

Wildcat girls win Spencer tournament, move to 16-0

Humboldt's 15th ranked volleyball team moved to 16-0 overall on the season after going 5-0 on Saturday (Sept. 12) to win the Spencer tournament.

Humboldt returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 17, when they travel to Hampton for North Central Conference action.

Wildcats smack Boone in district opener, 36-0

The Humboldt football team remains unbeaten after shutting out Boone, 36-0 Friday night (Sept. 11) in Class 3A District 2 action at Boone.

Humboldt is 3-0 overall, 2-0 in district play. Humboldt hosts Webster City on Sept. 18.
