Humboldt city personnel matters discussed

The female swan, Wilma (right) remains at the city pond, but her male counterpart, Fred, has been taken to the rehabilitation center near Carroll for treatment of his leg. No word on how long Fred will be gone, but Wilma has several feathered friends to keep her company. Humboldt Independent photo by Kent Thompson.

Health leaders answer COVID-19 vaccine questions

We are grateful so many people want to be vaccinated and we understand that waiting for the vaccine is extremely difficult right now. Everyone’s opportunity to get vaccinated will come; it will just take some time and patience.
In Humboldt County, we will continue to follow the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) regarding priority groups, vaccination schedule and any additional guidance that may come forward.
As more information becomes available, we promise to keep you informed. Please stay tuned to our sources of communication which include our hospital website, social media, local radio and local newspaper.
Please take a few minutes to read the top questions being asked about the COVID-19 vaccine in Humboldt County. We hope this will provide clear communication and answers to many of the questions out there.

The Humboldt Fire Department responded to a building fire shortly before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 5.
The location was the Romans 3:16 garage operated by Gabriel Sanders of Humboldt. The building, at 701 13th St. N. in Humboldt, was the former Yo’s Redemption Center.
When firefighters arrived at the scene there was a lot of white/gray smoke coming out of the service bay portion, according to Humboldt Fire Chief Jim Gronbach.
“We got it knocked down in a quick amount of time after the initial attack,” Gronbach said.
“Right now we are ventilating and making sure we’re not seeing any hot spots,” Gronbach reported from the scene shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday. After 20 minutes, no smoke was seen exiting the building.
