Wildcat girls claim their own relays title, 1st at Storm Lake

Led by Kendal Clark's victories in the shot put and discus, the Humboldt girls' track team won the team title of their own invitational Monday night (April 26).

The Wildcats totaled 152 points to outdistance runner-up Estherville-Lincoln Central, which had 110 points.

Clark, coming off her Drake Relays performance where she placed third in the discus, set a new meet record in the event with a toss of 135-8. Clipping the old mark of 130-2 set by Renetta Seiler of Algona Garrigan in 1993.

Humboldt's other victories came in the 4x100 relay, the 4x200 relay and shuttle hurdle relay.

Humboldt also claimed the team title in the Storm Lake Relays on April 29. Clark set new meet records in the shot put (44-3.5) and discus (146-0).

Wildcat girls edged by Lions in key NCC golf match

In a key North Central Conference golf meet in Humboldt last Friday (April 23), the No. 1 ranked (Class 3A) Clear Lake Lions topped Humboldt by 13 strokes to win a triangular at Humboldt Country Club.
The Lions finished with 183 strokes to surpass the Wildcats, who shot 196. Algona was third with 229.
Meghan and Rebecca DeLong each shot a 39 to lead Clear Lake and secure meet medalist honors.
Nora Carlson carded a 40 to pace Humboldt. Aries Packard followed with 50, followed by Noelle Hamand with 51 and Chloe Mayall with 55. Carlie Yokimishyn paced Algona with a 52.

Humboldt returns to action at Clarion on Thursday, April 29, against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Hampton-Dumont-CAL. Humboldt is at Iowa Falls on Friday. The Wildcats compete in a tournament at Clarion on May 1. Humboldt visits Webster City on Tuesday, May 4.

Humboldt boys roll, 10-2

The Humboldt boys soccer team got right back into the win column Friday evening (April 30) by whipping Hampton-Dumont-CAL 10-2 on the Humboldt field. The victory improved the Wildcats to 6-2 on the season.

Wildcat boys edged by Mason City, 4-3
Mason City snapped Humboldt's four-game winning streak by edging the Wildcats, 4-3 on April 29 at Mason City in high school soccer. Christian Ramirez scored twice for the Wildcats and Max Mason added a goal for Humboldt.

Humboldt football schedule released


Humboldt's 2021 varsity football schedule was unveiled by the state on April 26. Humboldt's season begins on Aug. 27 at Webster City. The Wildcats host Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Sept. 3 and Estherville-Lincoln Central on Sept. 10. District play begins on Sept. 17 at Boone.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association on Monday (April 26) released the 2021 varsity football schedules across the state.

Humboldt, which competes in Class 3A District 2, will open its schedule in a non-district game at Webster City on Friday, Aug. 27. Humboldt will host Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Sept. 3 and Estherville-Lincoln Central on Sept. 10.

Humboldt begins district play at Boone on Friday, Sept. 17. The Wildcats host Ballard Huxley on Sept. 24.

Humboldt will be on the road on Oct. 1 at North Polk (Alleman). They will play at Gilbert on Oct. 8.

Humboldt hosts Nevada (Oct. 15) and Algona on Oct. 22 to round out its regular season schedule.

Boil order issued for Clare

The city of Clare has announced a boil order beginning at 6 p.m. today (Thursday, April 22) until further notice. Citizens in the town of Clare are advised to boil water before using it for cooking or drinking due to the painting project going on at the Clare Water Tower. COVID cases down in the county

Humboldt County positive cases for the novel coronavirus have dropped precipitously during the past two weeks, which only six new cases reported in the county between April 6 and April 21.
According to the Humboldt County Public Health website, the Iowa Department of Public Health and Humboldt County Public Health have identified two additional cases in the county. Both cases were identified late last week and both patients were in the 61-80 age range.
Since the first recorded case in the county on April 18, 2020, there have been 1,188 positive cases in Humboldt County, Of those cases, 1,157 have recovered with 26 deaths. There are 5 positive cases currently in the county. With the two positive cases in the past week, Humboldt’s positivity rate has declined to 1 percent. Humboldt County is 24th lowest in the state in total positive cases since the inception of the virus.
