City Housing group partners with developer to fill need

A little wind did not stop groundbreaking ceremonies from going off without a hitch early Monday evening at 901 Taft St. N., one of two sites for new LMI single-family housing in the community. By KENT THOMPSON
Another public/private partnership was kicked off Monday night, one that will benefit not only first time homebuyers in Humboldt County, but throughout Iowa.
Representatives from the Humboldt County Housing Development Corporation (HCHDC) joined representatives from Soyland Homes LLC of Ames to break ground on one of two new single-family homes in the community that will benefit low-to-moderate (LMI) income citizens.
Earlier this winter the Humboldt City Council approved $250,000 from the city’s residential tax increment financing low-to-moderate income housing fund to provide HCHDC for the construction of two single-family residences, one at 901 Taft Street North and the other at 105 8th Street South. Ground was turned on the site of the new home on Taft Street North, across the street to the south from the Hy-Vee grocery store.
