Wildcat wrestlers fall to No. 5 Creston, 40-24

No. 5 ranked Creston overcame an early deficit to Humboldt and went on to upend the Wildcats, 40-24 in a non-conference wrestling dual on Dec. 19 in the Humboldt gym.

The loss dropped Humboldt's dual record to 6-3 overall. Creston is now 10-0.

The Wildcats got wins from Cyler Cirks at 106, Tyce Clarken at 120, Jayden Gargano at 126, Jace Goodell at 138 and Joe Weydert at 160.

Humboldt will be off until Jan. 6, when they travel to Clear Lake. Humboldt will wrestle in the Dyer Invitational in Atlantic on Jan. 8.

Humboldt wrestlers 6th at Fort Dodge, girls place 4

Humboldt placed 11 wrestlers in the top six and finished sixth in the team scoring of the Don Miller Invitational tournament in Fort Dodge on Saturday, Dec. 18.

Humboldt totaled 125 points. Creston won the team title with 195.5 points, followed by Ankeny Centennial with 191, Webster City at 177, Fort Dodge with 160 and Emmetsburg 141. After Humboldt it was Decorah at 79.5, Mason City 68 and Spirit Lake Park 66.

In the girls division, Humboldt had an individual champion in Baylie Beers. Maria Elizondo, Brett Harklau and Rylee Coyle finished second at their respective weight classes.

Humboldt returns to action on Sunday afternoon when they host Creston in a non-conference dual at 1:30 p.m.

Wildcats hold off St. Edmond, 66-57

The unbeaten Humboldt boys basketball team withstood a late rally by Fort Dodge St. Edmond and held on for a 66-57 victory over the Gaels Friday night in Fort Dodge.

Caden Matson scored 21 points and Will Orness made 14 to lead Humboldt, which moved to 5-0 overall, 2-0 in the North Central Conference. Trevor Jacobson, Josh Thurm and Jacob Heier each had nine points for the Wildcats. Kaleb McCullough added four. Hayden Mayer and Quinn McCarville paced St. Edmond with 16 points apiece.

Humboldt will wrap up its pre-Christmas schedule when they travel to Hampton on Tuesday, Dec. 21.

The Humboldt girls basketball team won their fifth straight game tonight by blitzing Fort Dodge St. Edmond, 68-34 in a North Central Conference game in the St. Edmond gym.

Morgan Mann scored 19 points, Reagan Lee had 17 and Joie Smith made 12 to lead Humboldt. Alexis Hansen finished with 10. Bella Opheim had eight points. Marissa Kaufman had one. Katie Flaherty scored 11 points to lead St. Edmond.

Humboldt is 5-2 overall, 3-0 in the NCC.

The Wildcats will visit Hampton-Dumont-CAL on Tuesday, Dec. 21, in their final game before the Christmas break.

Wildcat wrestlers fall to Algona, HDC in NCC duals

Humboldt’s varsity wrestling team suffered a pair of North Central Conference losses Thursday night (Dec. 16) in the Humboldt gym.

Humboldt fell to Hampton Dumont CAL, 42-34, and lost by the same score to Algona. Humboldt whipped Ballard Huxley 53-23. Algona defeated HDC 37-30.

The Wildcats are now 6-2 overall, 2-2 in the NCC.

Humboldt will compete in the Don Miller Invitational in Fort Dodge on Saturday, Dec. 18. Humboldt hosts Creston on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Iowa State and Purdue meet at 5 p.m.

Rare December severe storms roar through Humboldt County

High winds Wednesday night snapped power poles south of Bode, closing County Road P-33 as the poles and power lines blocked the roadway. It was a rare December day (Dec. 15) in Humboldt County as the high temperature approached 70 degrees, followed by tornado warnings in the evening.
