St. Mary's dedicates new structures Dec. 12

St. Mary’s will host a dedication ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 12, following a special Mass at 10 a.m.
Bishop Walter Nickless will preside over the dedication of the new Parish Center and renovated school.
More than $3.5 million was raised to pay for the project with donations still being accepted.
“We’ve had lots of very positive comments about the project,” Father Dan Guenther of St. Mary’s Parish said.

Humboldt adds men's clothing shop

A new men’s clothing store has opened in downtown Humboldt.
Rachel Frideres opened Gravity Menswear at 13 Taft Street South (formerly Reflexology by Marcia) on Saturday, Nov. 27. The business carries men’s casual to business casual clothing in sizes from small up to 4XLT.
“When people heard we were opening a men’s store, the number one question was if we were going to carry big and tall sizes. So I knew we needed to do that,” Frideres said.
The business has a selection of Devil Dog jeans, FX Fusion clothing from Mankato, MN, Iowa, Iowa State and UNI clothing and stocking hats, formal dress shirts, ties and bow ties, socks, belts and other accessories, jackets, golf sweaters, sunglasses and more.

New Humboldt business combines services

Home & Homestead Realty & Development Co. is run by partners Nate Samp and his fiancé Nicole Fusco.
Nate was inspired to combine his previous construction and real estate businesses into one company with a new name.
Nate, an Algona native, has worked in the construction business since he was 12, working with his father, Tim Samp. Nate obtained his real estate license in 2014, and recently obtained his broker’s license. Nicole, a Humboldt native, serves as a marketing and management advisor. She is a biology instructor at Iowa Central Community College and the dance team coach at Humboldt High School.

Kuehnast commits to Northern Iowa

Ben Kuehnast, a senior at Humboldt High School, announced today that he has committed himself to sign with the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and play football for the Panthers.

Kuehnast is a 6-foot-7, 270-pounder who earned all-district and all-state honors in Class 3A for the Wildcats, who finished 11-1 overall and advance to the state semifinals.

Humboldt boys roll past Ogden, 79-47

Humboldt moves to 2-0 overall. Wildcats host Clear Lake in conference opener Friday night, Dec. 10.
