Shuttle hurdle relay runs 9th in Drake Relays

The shuttle hurdle relay has had an impressive spring for the Humboldt boys' track team. The Wildcats showcased their skills by placing ninth in the Drake Relays high school division on April 30 in Des Moines.

The foursome of Jordan Coon, Corey Dettmann, Keegan Groat and Caden Matson finished with a time of 1:01.90. Spirit Lake had the winning time of 59.82 seconds.

Matson also competed in the 110-meter high hurdles on April 29 and finished 30th overall in 16.07 seconds. The winning time was 14.24 seconds by Jack Latham of Spirit Lake.

Humboldt's boys will run in the Algona Relays on Monday, May 2. The North Central Conference meet is at Iowa Falls on Thursday, May 5.

Humboldt boys down Webster City, move to 9-0

Humboldt's unbeaten boys' soccer team kept their unbeaten season intact by stopping the Webster City Lynx, 5-1 Thursday night (April 28) in Humboldt.

Jacob Heier and Cristhian Ramirez each scored two goals to lead Humboldt, which improved to 9-0 overall on the season, 5-0 in North Central Conference play,

Humboldt returns to action at Hampton on Tuesday, May 3.

Another round of severe storms in Humboldt County

For the second time in 12 days, Humboldt County was struck by some severe storms early Saturday evening, April 23, causing property damage to some rural Humboldt County farm buildings.
Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger reported that a severe thunderstorm warning with strong winds and possible hail was issued at 5:21 p.m. by the National Weather Service, saying that severe storms would be arriving in the county around 5:30 p.m.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for southeastern Humboldt County at 5:59 p.m., lasting until 7 p.m.
The county did receive reports of wind damage to three rural properties in the county. The most severe was on the Douglas Sandven farm 5 miles northeast of Humboldt at 2527 210th Street.

Gala raises $121,600 for St. Mary's School

The annual St. Mary’s Gala, held March 26 at 716 Main, raised $121,670 to benefit St. Mary School in Humboldt, according to St. Mary’s Development Director Suzanne Newton. The 19th annual St. Mary’s Gala, “The Roaring Twenties,” was held March 26 at 716 Main in Humboldt.
The annual charity auction was conducted via online bidding for one week from March 20-26 as well as in person with a live auction finale on March 26.
The Gala is St. Mary’s largest fundraiser of the year and this year’s supporters helped raise over $121,600.
“I strongly believe it was because as a school and parish we were able to celebrate together again after two years of having to hold our gala virtually. By working together we were able to accomplish great things,” Suzanne Newton, St. Mary’s Development Director said.
St. Mary School is a private, Catholic school offering three-year-old Preschool, four-year-old Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten through sixth grade.

Junk day for Humboldt and DC is May 2

Junk day for the city of Humboldt begins Monday, May 2. All items should be curbside by 6 a.m. that week. All appropriate items will be collected by Friday, May 6. There is a limit of one truckload per household.
Items that can be placed in regular trash bags should be disposed of in that manner. They must have the city orange sticky tag around them and will be picked up during the regular garbage route that week.
Items that are not acceptable and will not be collected are waste oil, wire, tires, batteries, items that contain Freon, paint, shingles, cement, steel construction, demolition materials and hazardous waste. These items will be left curbside and must be removed by the property owner or face a municipal citation.

Wildcat boys top Cadets by 3 strokes

Humboldt's varsity boys' golf team picked up another North Central Conference victory at Iowa Falls on Friday, April 29, by topping the Cadets, 165-168.

Jayden Gargano shot a 40 and Carson Sleiter a 41 to lead Humboldt. Carter Arends and Colton England each had a 39 for the Cadets.

In the boys' meet at Pocahontas, Humboldt shot a 166 total. Pocahontas Area was second at 172 and Southeast Valley third with 186. Carson Arndt and Corey Dettmann each shot a 40 to pace Humboldt. The Wildcats got a trio of 43 scores from Carson Sleiter, Jayden Gargano and Parker Sleiter. Hayden Holm shot 47.

The Wildcat boys host Fort Dodge St. Edmond and Webster City on May 3. The Wildcats golf at Carroll Kuemper on Saturday, May 7. The North Central Conference meet is May 9 at Fort Dodge Country Club.

Wildcat girls move to 7-3

Humboldt's varsity girls' soccer team improved to 7-3 overall on the season, 4-2 in conference play, by stopping Webster City, 2-0 in Webster City on April 28.

The Humboldt posted a 3-0 victory over Fort Dodge in Humboldt on April 25. Ashley Carvajal scored two goals and Elsie Hubbell added another to pace the Wildcat scoring.

The Humboldt boys moved to 8-0 overall on the season by edging the Dodgers, 2-1 in Fort Dodge.

The girls host Hampton-Dumont-CAL on May 3. They return to Hampton on May 6 for a makeup game with the Bulldogs. Iowa Falls-Alden visits Humboldt on May 9 for a 5 p.m. contest.

Wildcat girls 2nd in Humboldt Relays

Humboldt won three events and placed second in their own Humboldt Relays track and field competition on Tuesday night, April 26.

The Wildcats finished with 136 team points, five shy of first-place Pocahontas Area at 141. Fort Dodge St. Edmond was third at 101, followed by Estherville-LC with 90, Hampton-Dumont-CAL 56, Southeast Valley 77 and Webster City with 67.

Paige DeWinter won the 200 meters in 27.8 seconds. Teammate Morgan Mann was second at 27.9. Mann won the 400 meters in 1:03.6. Mann also took the high jump with a leap of 4-10.

Humboldt will return to action in the Storm Lake Relays on Thursday, April 28.
