More than 90 awards and scholarships at HHS

On May 4, Humboldt High School held their Awards Night with more than 90 awards/scholarships presented. There were 74 students honored and more than 50 members of the community presented more than $185,000, plus military compensation to the students. HHS girls top Raiders, fall to Cadets

The Humboldt girls' soccer team split a pair of games earlier this week, falling 5-0 at home to Iowa Falls-Alden on May 9 and winning 1-0 at home over East Sac County on May 10.

Humboldt is now 10-5 overall, 6-3 in North Central Conference play.

Humboldt will host Garner Hayfield/Ventura on May 12 and travel to Clear Lake on May 13.

Humboldt will open Class 1A regional tournament play at home on May 18 against Hampton-Dumont-CAL. The winner will play at Garner on May 24.

Wildcat boys' soccer team caps perfect 15-0 season

The Humboldt boys soccer team capped a perfect 15-0 season by defeating Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, 3-1 in a regular season finale at Garner on May 12.

The victory also gave Humboldt the North Central Conference championship outright with a 10-0 record.

Humboldt kept up their winning ways by shutting out the East Sac Raiders, 4-0 in Humboldt on May 10.

Humboldt improved its North Central Conference record to 9-0 after posting a 2-1 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden on May 9 in Humboldt.

The Wildcats begin Class 2A substate tournament play at home on May 23 when they host Webster City or Spirit Lake in a semifinal round contest. Webster City and Spirit Lake meet on May 19 in Storm Lake. The other half of the substate has Perry facing Boone and Storm Lake facing Denison-Schleswig in opening round matches with a semifinal in Perry on May 23. The substate final will be played in Humboldt on May 25.

Humboldt boys finish 2nd in NCC golf by one stroke

Humboldt head boys’ golf coach Scott Birdsell praised his team’s effort after placing runner-up by just one stroke in the North Central Conference tournament on Monday, May 9 at Fort Dodge Country Club.

The Wildcats finished with 338 strokes, one behind first-place Clear Lake at 337. Clarion-Goldfield Dows also had a 338 to place third via the tie-breaker.

Jayden Gargano earned runner-up medalist honors with an 80 to pace the Wildcats. Jacob Moore of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows was individual medalist with a 78.

Carson Sleiter tied with two other players at 81 and ended up fourth. Humboldt also got an 87 from Ty Gargano, 90 from Carson Arndt, 92 from Parker Sleiter and 96 from Hayden Holm.

The Wildcats will play in a Class 3A Sectional at Orange City on May 11. District play is May 16 at Spencer.

Nora Carlson placed third with an 81 and Noelle Hamand was fourth with a 91 to lead the Humboldt girls' golf team to a runner-up finish in the North Central Conference tournament on Monday, May 9 at Spring Valley Golf Course north of Livermore.

Clear Lake won with a 352 total while Humboldt was a distant second at 391. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows was third with 433.

Carlson tied with Rebecca DeLong and Meghan DeLong, both of Clear Lake, with an 81 after 18 holes. They shot a sudden death playoff to determine the final tally.

Humboldt also had Ashlee Wergeland with a 108, Aries Packard with 111, Chloe Mayall with 116 and Adalynn Lawman with 125.

The Wildcats will golf in a tournament at Fort Dodge on Friday, May 13. They'll compete in the Storm Lake tournament on Saturday, May 14.

Regional tournament play will be on May 18 at Denison.

Humboldt won two events and finished runner-up in the team scoring of the North Central Conference track meet on May 5 in Clear Lake.

Humboldt finished with 99 points. Clear Lake ran away with the team title in scoring 165 points. Hampton-Dumont-CAL was third at 91.

Humboldt'x 4x100 relay took first in 52.81 seconds. The relay consisted of Morgan Olson, Tayla Wempen Alexis Hansen and Paige DeWinter.

Humboldt's 800-meter medley relay also took first in 1:58.67. The relay consisted of Morgan Olson, Alexis Hansen, Morgan Mann and Paige DeWinter.

Humboldt will now focus on the state qualifying meet in Gilbert on Thursday, May 12.

Humboldt boys 3rd in NCC track

Humboldt crowned two titles and finished third in the team scoring of the boys North Central Conference track and field championships held on May 5 in Iowa Falls.

The Wildcats finished with 104 team points. Clear Lake won the title with 150. Algona was runner-up at 110.

Humboldt's Trevor Jacobson won the 800-meters in 2:02.68. The shuttle hurdle relay also won in 1:04.86. The relay consisted of Jordan Coon, Coen Matson, Keegan Groat and Jackson Dodd.

Caden Matson was second in the high hurdles in 15.35 seconds.

Humboldt will now set its sights on the state qualifying meet at Gilbert on Thursday, May 12. The top two place winners and the next best finishes statewide comprise the state meet field of 24. The state meet will be May 19-21 in Des Moines.

Wildcat boys move to 12-0 after 3-0 week

Humboldt's unbeaten boys' soccer team moved to 12-0 overall, 8-0 in the North Central Conference by stopping Hampton-Dumont-CAL, 4-1 on May 6 in Humboldt.

The Wildcats moved one step closer to the league title after they downed Clear Lake, 4-1 in Humboldt on May 5.

Humboldt defeated Hampton-Dumont-CAL, 5-1 at Hampton on May 3.

Humboldt will also host Iowa Falls-Alden on Monday, May 9, 7 p.m. It will be the second game of a varsity only, girl-boy doubleheader.

Wildcat girls move to 9-4 overall, 6-2 in NCC

Humboldt's varsity girls' soccer team climbed to 98-4 overall on the season, 6-2 in North Central Conference play after they downed Hampton-Dumont-CAL, 2-0 at Hampton on May 6.

Humboldt defeated Hampton-Dumont-CAL, 3-1 in Humboldt on May 3.

Elsie Hubbell, Ashley Carvajel and Reagan Lee each scored a goal for the Wildcats, who are third in the NCC standings.

The Wildcats will host conference leading Iowa Falls-Alden (9-0) on Monday, May 9 at 5 p.m.
