Humboldt County Fair is July 19-25

The 2022 Humboldt County Fair runs July 19-25 with something for everyone.
Grandstand events get underway on Wednesday, July 20, at 7 p.m. with the Little Miss and Mister contest, 4-H Style Show and Fair Queen contest. Admission to the grandstand is free.
Thursday night, July 21, comedian C. Willi Myles will perform a show at 7 p.m. Admission to the grandstand is free.
“We saw him at fair convention and he was hilarious. He really tailors the show to the crowd,” Fair Board President Jeff Haselhuhn said.
C. Willi Myles is a veteran performer with the gift of connecting people with each other through humor and storytelling that everyone can relate to.

Wildcat softball team falls to Carroll, 12-0

Carroll jumped on Humboldt for three runs in the first inning and added six in the second and three more in the third en route to a 12-0 victory over the Wildcats Saturday night (July 9) in a Class 4A regional semifinal round game in Humboldt.

A first inning single by Gracie Lyon was the only hit on the night for the Wildcats, who end their year at 14-14 overall.

Humboldt Newspapers has new owners

Jeff Gargano and Jaime Zweibohmer, publishers of Humboldt Newspapers, have announced the sale of the Humboldt Independent, Humboldt Reminder and Humboldt NOW magazine to Jerry and Rebecca Wiseman of Estherville and Kris Grabinoski of Armstrong. The sale was effective July 1.
The newspapers have been operated by the Gargano family for the last 38 years.
“We are confident Jerry and Kris will continue to bring quality print and digital products to our loyal readers,” Jeff Gargano said. “We appreciate the support the Humboldt County community has shown us over the years. We have a top-notch staff that continue to produce a newspaper, a shopper and magazine that people can’t wait to read.”
The Wisemans have been in the newspaper business for many years.
