The second annual Cy-Hawk Rivalry on Sumner Avenue is only one week away.
This year’s event will be Thursday, Sept. 8, from 4-10 p.m. on Sumner Avenue.
While the Cy-Hawk Rivalry has been going on several years and at least four times in conjunction with WHO’s RVTV, this is the second year the Humboldt Athletic Booster Club has sponsored the event as a club fundraiser.
Some fundraising has already been going on this summer. The Athletic Boosters held a golf tournament earlier this year and just completed a Wildcat apparel sales drive.
“We have started yard signs with Iowa State or Iowa logos on Aug. 29. For this week and next week, people can have someone’s yard Hawked or Cloned and then they have to pay to have the signs removed. It’s a fun thing that gets people fired up to root for their favorite school,” Booster Club member Cassie Harklau said.

Humboldt County is already a camping destination for many folks. Now the emphasis is on making it even better.
Humboldt had a record-breaking year in 2021, as far as number of campers and income.
“Camping in the county has been popular this year. It won’t be a record-breaking year like last year due to the late spring, high gas prices and inflation, but it should be a decent year in terms of revenues,” Humboldt County Conservation Director Todd Lee said on the eve of the Labor Day weekend, one of the busiest camping times of the year.
“We have a huge variety in terms of outdoor recreation and we are looking at adding to that with improvements to the dam/West Fork of the Des Moines River and the plans we have in place for additional campsites and other improvements at our county parks,” Lee said.
