Burn ban lifted for Humboldt County

Members of the Humboldt Fire Department put out a grass fire on Lone Tree Road north of Badger recently. On Tuesday, Humboldt County lifted its burn ban. Residents are still urged to use caution when burning outside and rural residents should call in all controlled burns. There will be an open burning of leaves and yard waste for Humboldt city residents on Saturday, Nov. 19, only. Humboldt Independent photo by Kent Thompson.

Humboldt County’s burn ban was lifted on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 8 a.m.
“In collaboration with the fire chiefs of Humboldt County, the State of Iowa Fire Marshal’s Office and the Humboldt County Emergency Management Agency, the current burn ban for Humboldt County will be lifted effective at 8 a.m. on Nov. 8. All outside burning may resume at that time,” Humboldt County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Kyle Bissell said in a press release.
“Even though the burn ban has been lifted, please use caution when burning. The weather forecast does call for rain in the area, however conditions remain drier than normal and fire spread is still possible. Remember to attend all outside burning and have an extinguishment source available and nearby. For more safety information on burning outside contact your local fire department,” Bissell advised.

Republicans dominate in races at all levels

Six Humboldt County Republican candidates ran for county office, all were unopposed and all won easily on Tuesday at the polls. By KENT THOMPSON
As mid-term elections go it was fairly uneventful locally, but that did not stop nearly 60 percent of the county’s 6,669 registered voters from turning out on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8. A total of 3,906 county residents voted, 58.57 percent of those registered.
There were contested races on the state and local level, and having a governor, U.S. senator and U.S. representative on the ballot helped drive turnout.
All of the six county officeholders on the ballot in Humboldt County were elected.
For County Supervisor for four-year terms, Bruce Reimers in District 1 (681 votes), Sandy Loney in District 2 (769 votes) and Rick Pedersen in District 3 (591 votes) were re-elected.
