Wildcats are heading back to the Dome!!!

The Humboldt Wildcat football team, in the midst of one of the greatest 2-year runs in school history, is heading back to the UNI-Dome after beating Independence, 34-26 in a Class 3A quarterfinal round game on Mason Maach Field Friday night in Humboldt.

The Wildcats, 10-1 on the year, will travel to Cedar Falls on Saturday, Nov. 12, to face Mount Vernon in the semifinals. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Mount Vernon (11-0) shutout Solon, 17-0, to earn a trip to Cedar Falls. The other semifinal game has No. 1 seed Harlan (10-1) facing Adel-ADM (10-1) at 4 p.m. The 3A finals will be on Friday, Nov. 18, 1 p.m.

Humboldt scored on the opening drive of the game on a 45-yard pass from Will Orness to Corey Dettmann. Early in the second quarter Lance Coon scored on a 70-yard run to make it 14-0 Humboldt.

Numerous break-ins reported early Thursday morning

Law enforcement in Humboldt County responded to a string of burglaries that occurred within the last 24 hours.
One was reported in Humboldt. That was reported on Wednesday morning, Nov. 2, at 7:28 a.m. A Union Pacific Railroad service truck was parked overnight at the AmericInn Hotel, 307 13th St. N. If was reported that hand-held power tools were taken from the vehicle.
Early Thursday morning, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) reported that other commercial service trucks were broken into in Gilmore City.
“There was a MidAmerican Energy service truck parked at a private residence that had power tools taken,” HCSO Chief Deputy Cory Lampe reported.

Worthington remembered as passionate volunteer

Actions speak louder than words and while Michael “Mike” Worthington was not shy about expressing his opinions, his deeds are what will leave a lasting legacy in the city of Humboldt and for its citizens.
Worthington died Tuesday evening, Nov. 1, in Pipua, OH, where he was visiting. He was 73.
Worthington was two months shy of completing his fifth year on the Humboldt City Council as an at large member. Prior to that he served 12 years on the Humboldt Parks and Recreation Board.
“It was a total surprise,” Humboldt City Administrator Cole Bockelmann said of hearing the news about Mike. “I know he was visiting family and I just talked to him last week to tell him about what happened at the special meeting (Oct. 22).
