City rolls out Rural Housing Readiness Assessment survey

The City of Humboldt wants the public to participate by taking a brief online survey.

By KENT THOMPSON

The city of Humboldt is rolling out a Rural Housing Readiness Assessment survey and it wants the public to participate by taking a brief online survey. People can scan the QR code included with this story in the Independent to be directed to the survey.

The city received a grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority for $10,000 and received $5,000 matching funds from the Humboldt County Housing Development Corp.

“That means there is zero cost to the city, but we believe the assessment will show us some very important information about the gaps in housing stock in the community that will lead to the best practices and avenues to address those housing shortage needs,” Humboldt City Administrator Cole Bockelmann explained last week.

Goodell looks back on wrestling at Iowa Central

COLTEN GOODELL

By PHIL MONSON

Nothing came easy for former Humboldt High football and wrestling standout Colten Goodell during his last two seasons on the Iowa Central Community College wrestling team.

Goodell says he wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Tritons, a perennial junior college power each year, have all 10 of their starters competing in the national tournament this weekend in Council Bluffs.

Goodell, a 220-pounder in high school, competed at 197 his freshman year at IC and moved up to heavyweight this past season.

“These last two years have gone really fast but I have no regrets,” said Goodell, who has wrestled mostly in a reserve role for IC.
