WILDCAT SOCCER TEAM BACK TO STATE!!!!

The Humboldt boys soccer team earned their second straight trip to the Class 3A state tournament by holding off the Newton Cardinals, 4-3 in an exciting substate final at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt on Wednesday night, May 24.

Humboldt got goals from Trever Beach, Cristhian Ramirez, Henrik Gustafson and Beach again late (24:04). Newton scored with 23:35 left in the second half but couldn't convert in applying relentless pressure against Humboldt in the final minutes. Newton ends its season at 11-7 overall.

The Wildcats advance with a 16-1 overall record. Opening round action at state will be Tuesday, May 30. Humboldt earned a No. 4 seed and will meet No. 5 Norwalk in the quarterfinals at 4:10 p.m. on field number eight at Cownie Sports Complex, 2600 Hartford Ave, Des Moines. Tickets must be purchased online at the IHSAA website: wwww.iahsaa.org/tickets/. Tickets are $13 each. Seating is limited so bring a lawn chair.

Wildcat boys roll in substate semifinal, 9-0

Will Orness scored three goals and Antonio Xum Vicar and Carter Westre each had two to lead the Humboldt boys' soccer team to a 9-0 victory over Belmond-Klemme (Wright County) in a Class 3A substate semifinal round game in Humboldt Monday night, May 22, at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt.

The victory moves Humboldt within one game of the state tournament. The Wildcats will host Newton (11-6) in a substate final in Humboldt on Wednesday night, May 24, against the Newton Cardinals. Newton advanced with a 7-0 victory over Mason City Monday night in Newton.

Humboldt also got goals from Gaige Allen and Cristhian Ramirez to improve to 15-1 overall on the season.

Wildcats' 4x400 relay 16th in state track

Humboldt's 4x400 relay placed sixth overall last week in the Class 3A state track and field championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines (May 18-20).

It was one of four events competing at state for the Wildcats. Humboldt was also 23rd in the shuttle hurdle relay. Mason Van Pelt was 17th in the 800-meters while Elliot Carlson was 18th in the long jump.

The shuttle hurdle relay foursome of sophomores Coen Matson, Keegan Groat, Tyler Carlson and Jackson Dodd finished in 1:04.20 in the prelims.
The 4x400 relay of Dodd, Landyn Dencklau, Elliot Carlson and Mason Van Pelt ran 3:30.89.

Carlson long jumped 19-11.25. Van Pelt ran 2:00.64 in the 800.

Ashlynn Works 6th in state discus


ASHLYNN WORKS

Humboldt High junior Ashlynn Works placed sixth in the discus competition in Thursday’s Class 3A girls state track and field championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

Works threw 129-11 to earn a top eight medal.

In the shot put competition on day two, Works finished 23rd with a high throw of 32-3.75.

Humboldt sophomore Morgan Mann competed in the high jump for the second straight year and placed 17th with a leap of 4-10.
