Algona rally sidelines Humboldt boys in 3A opener, 48-43

Algona overcame a halftime deficit against Humboldt Monday night (Feb. 22) to keep its season alive, handing the Wildcats a 48-43 setback in a boys' Class 3A first round district tournament game inside the Webster City gym.The loss ended Humboldt's season at 7-15 overall while the Bulldogs move on to play Webster City Thursday night (Feb. 25) in a district final in Fort Dodge. Webster City (19-2) defeated Iowa Falls-Alden in Monday's second game, 82-47.Thomas Orness scored 18 points and Devon Clark added 14 to lead Humboldt's scoring. Jake Stockdale was next with seven. Landon Rash scored 26 to pace Algona, which moved to 17-5 overall. Cole Banwart followed with eight points.The Wildcats will be recognized at their team banquet on Mar. 14.
