About 40 people gathered in Bicknell Park Friday, Nov. 11, to honor veterans with the dedication of the Veterans’ Memorial Bridge in Humboldt.
“This is the first veterans’ memorial erected in the city in the past 50 years, long overdue to recognize those who served,” Humboldt Mayor Dan Scholl said.
Scholl thanked Joe Hadar and Darrell Rusher for organizing the effort to construct the memorial and raise funds. He thanked the many service groups, businesses and individuals who donated for the memorial plaques. He also thanked the Humboldt American Legion, Dakota City VFW, Humboldt County Community Foundation and Lincoln Mason for their support and involvement in the project, and the Humboldt City Council, for agreeing to rename the bridge the Veterans’ Memorial Bridge.
“It will serve as a centerpiece to the entrance of our community for many years to come,” Scholl said.
