A new addition along with upgrades to Taft Elementary School in Humboldt received final approval by the Humboldt School Board Monday night Nov. 21).
In their regular monthly meeting, the board approved steps to renew the issuance of bonds to pay for the project through sales tax revenue.
The board approved a resolution directing the sale of $2,805,000 in general obligation school capital loan notes over a 10-year period. The district will go through Bank Iowa for the bonding. The board also finalized payment of the fifth and final year of a bond issued in 2011 to pay for the new middle school, which opened up in 2012.
“This addition has been part of our facility planning that has taken place in recent years,” Humboldt School Superintendent Greg Darling said.
“It will help curtail some of the crowded classroom situations we have in the Taft building. We’ll update the media center. We’ll also have some reading rooms, a guidance room and a conference room. Right now we don’t have any room to meet when a parent comes in to talk with teachers,” Darling said.
